Where to attach head unit ground wire in 2000 Protege?

2000 Protege LX 1.6l
Hi all,

I'm installing an aftermarket JVC head unit in my 2000 Protege LX. I'm using a Metra adapter harness to connect to the factory wiring harness. Unfortunately, the adapter harness doesn't have a ground wire. From what I understand, that means I need to attach the JVC's ground wire to the chassis.

Can anyone with experience installing a head unit in a 2000 Protege (or any 3rd Gen Protege) suggest a good place to attach the ground wire?

I see metal areas inside the dash, but I don't see any bolts in the immediate area that I could secure the ground wire to. There are some vertical, bare metal bars to either side of the dash opening that have round holes, so I was thinking of buying a bolt with a nut and washer to attach the ground wire there. But I'm not sure whether that would work.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

That's what I did. As long as the metal reaches chassis ground, it should work. IIRC, using the harness's ground may introduce alternator whine, so it's a good thing the harness you got doesn't have a ground connection.
Welcome to the forums :)
