So I was checking my newly acquired Protege5, I noticed this on the front engine mount:

What is that metal lall-end thing sticking out of a bushing? How does it affect my car and should I replace it?

Thanks

This piece is rubber.

I'm pretty sure it's pointless.
no pcb i think he is talking bout that little xtra strut mount kinda thing that the automatic cars have.. its on the left of the motor mount next to the o2 plug.. but yea that is also pointless

To the OP, is it the thing in the red square?
It's rubber and is part of the rubber bushing in the front motor mount. What it does? I don't know. When I put in a front motor mount insert, the insert had a rectangular hole so that rubber tab would slide though. Maybe it is a visual indicator that that side is the passenger side of the motor mount.

whatusername is correct, I was referring to the left part of the photo near the "header" text. A metal ball out of a bushing socket

Holy crap,... I didn't even see that ball joint,... I just remembered the rubber tab and how it seemed pointless when I was looking at mine ???

(sorry my car was burning oil again)
