2K2 Protege 5 (Sold) now 08 UrbanRunner
I am saving right now to get my turbo, and I am just curious now (after seeing Pro 5's video) what boost levels are you guys running, especially wshade, linux, and all you guys who have logged some miles with the kit on. I am wanting to run somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-8 psi, no more than eight, till better internals. I think I am leaning towards the FM kit. All help is appreciated.
Mike

I was the first turbo mp3/protege
I have been turboed for a little under a year now and have run 6-8 psi daily, I currently have been at 10 psi daily with no problems. The internals can take some abuse. You just need proper timing and fuel control if you wanna go past 7 psi reliably

well i was the second turbo protege and Terry is right the F series motors can take some abuse moreso than honda motors. According to mazdaspeed our weak point apparently is the rods that start to bend at 225whp but some doubt that you will have no problem running 7-8 psi daily.....thats what i'm planning on my new kit. I think me and terry are in a knowledge war.....even though with the R&D he has been through on his car he probably knows a little more about it than I do but I have helped him out alot and he has helped me out alot.

My car was the prototype for BEGI/FM and I have been on the road since Mar '02. My car had 5k miles on it when we slapped on the boost and this morning I clocked 16K. All the initial testing was done at 8 psi on regular unleaded octane by accident, and no problems. Now running just under 8 psi and still no problems, on premium unleaded of course:cool: Buy one of the kits from Terry or F/M and you have no problems, both are quality and tested.

I have four thousand miles on the kit, I am running 7 psi with absolutely no problems. My flywheel and clutch combo upgrade will make things even better ;)

I'm running ~5-5.5 psi right now. I'm waiting for fuel and timing issues to be resolved on the MP3 before going higher.

Then exhaust would be next...

Thanks guys for the replies, just one more question. On the F/M or Spoolin kit is there a hole for a EGT Gauge probe? or would i have to drill and weld a bung? Any info is appreciated.
Mike

you can have spool do it

oi ordered the kit last week, and i am also getting an egt gauge with it. theyre going to drill the hole for me.

Yeah both ourselves and FM will tap your manifolds for bungs if requested

thanks for the replies. one more thing, spoolin, If i choose not to use the bung they can be plugged right?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, the bung for a wide band o2 sensor on my down pipe is sealed with a bolt when not in use...

I'm runing at 8 psi for almost a year now. 20k km and no problem. FMIC intercooler, full 2 1/2 exhaust line and always on 92 - 94 octane gaz.
