2001 Mazda Protege MP3
I have a 2001 MP3, the only thing I've done to it is put a cold air intake in it. But I'm looking to make it as fast as possible. I know I could buy a turbo but I was wondering if there were any other things I could do to make it fast. I dont know much about cars so plz be detailed. Im always trying to compete with my bf's GSR, I need help NOW!!!! (attn)

headers, exhaust, wires. That should help out a little. IDK how much you want to put into your car, but if you got the money, get that turbo kit. And later on, you can write a post in the "Kill Section" of the forums. And welcome to the forums.

Well, turbo would be my opinion. You have a couple of options there.

However, if you want to go N/A (naturally apirated) then you have some options there as well.

What is your overall goal? Let us know and we can better help point you in the right direction.

She said her goal is to compete with her boyfriend's (Integra) GSR, 170 hp...

then turbo
exactly, low boost stage 1 turbo, you'll be about even, if not a little fastAr

then again the GSR could have a mod (lol2)

If she wants to stay N/A, yeah.

Pistons, cams, intake manifold and header would go a long way. Remember, the FS has torque, the GS-R doesn't...

However, I do prefer the turbo option, however I am biased.(naughty)

gsr also has one hell of a vtec on it, a 170hp mp3 would more than likely pull the gsr through 1st and 2nd but the gsr is gonna suck it up in third.

mostly need to do: header, cams, cam gears, plugs, plug wires, j-spec intake manifold ( and there was talk awhile back about a tubular one), clutch, flywheel, Short shifter, high flow cat, cat back exhaust, set of lighter rims, cf hood (those dont matter much but any is help)

and now u basically have my plans for the summer (yawn)

You could maybe compete without turbo. Intake, Header, exhaust, custom cams, lightweight flywheel, and some engine management (Greddy eManage, MPI Tuner) to tune the timing and fuel...

If I had the money right now, I would get a turbo, but since I dont I was just looking for some other ways to make it faster. As far as my bf's GSR he has cold air intake, trottle body, intake manifold, header, exhaust, no cat, and an upgraded ECU, plus a bunch of little stuff like, short shifter and suspension mods and a vtec controller! Id have to say his car is a pretty fast street car, esp. once we hit v-tec! So I need to know whats the first thing I should buy that would help me out?

Also.. could my Mazda handle a 75 shot of NOS right now? What does the MP3 come stock with as far as H.P. and torque?

you really dont know anything do you haha jk
save up 4000 and get a hiboost kit, a highly modded gsr is pretty fast
but for the price difference between the 2 you could keep up
opt for a turbo

Just say no to NOS. Especially with our cars. Check out the Nitrous Forum and you see why. Checking out that forum is like visiting a graveyard

do not try nitrous....ive thought about it.....and well it seems everyone who tries it and claimes they do it the safe way.....ends up blowin there s*** up........even a 50 wet shot will blow it

Well here is the thing, I raced my friend's GSR... From the launch I can pull on it first through half of third gear. I get about a good car length ahead of it then ya it gets me from the rest of third all the way to the end... From a roll... Umm well... Can't say much but lets just say I'm in his rear view mirror... *cries* thats one of my goals too... I want to take out my friend's GSR...

Its so sad, I raced my bf's GSR today and he just blows the hell outta me =*( Alright so I know now not to go with the NOS, and to try and save up money for a turbo. Would new cams do anything???

hey, where in northern IL are you? I'm near Gurnee myself. We IL folk get together all the time and you're welcome to come hang, talk cars, etc.

edit - just saw that you are from Round Lake :D
