Some cars come equipped with speed sensitive audio systems.
GM's use it on 90% of their cars.
Basically, when you increase speed, you are prone to more wind resistance influenced noises, so the audio system slightly increases the volume to tune you out of the noise from the elements.
Not sure if Mazda does this or not, but that may be your answer.
The thought of the speed sensitive control did cross my mind as my girl's cobalt has that too. But I'm 99% positive Mazda doesnt have that like GM and Chev and other cars do.
It's called ALC (Automatic Level Control) and all MS3s should have it. It is off by default, when on you can adjust it to level 1-3 for different amounts of volume adjustment.
Oh wow. That makes perfect sense. I dont have a speed 3 but i have that option, its the first adjustment when i go into tuning mode or whatever. (messing with trebble and bass)
I guess the question was already answered. But Yes Mazda does have the interface, Mine has it and it helps when it is a little noisy outside and I sure do love listening to music i tell you what. Mine is set at 6 and I love it.
