Water Injection Results... dayum!

Well, I'm sure this is quite expected, but tonight (midnight) I was out driving, and the car was way faster. There is no question as to why- it is waaay cooler out. But, the water injection was supposed to help make it cooler all the time. But, anyway, I was running 15 psi tonite using the setting on my Blitz controller that usually only yields 12-13 psi, meaning that the turbo is way more efficient when it is cooler out (duh). Anyway, the point of this post is that I am going to move the nozzle closer to the intercooler so that the mix has more time to atomize, and I am going to move the tank to the trunk, because I tested the system today and it was spraying very hot water/alc from the nozzle.

So, I'll hit the track again next Friday to see if my feeble attempts at cheap horsepower work. Don't hold your breath, but it can't hurt to try.

Riles....just to clarify something with you... water/alcohol injection is considered a "final" step in the world of tunning and boosting.

what I mean is that in order for you to be boosting at 15psi and achieving your desired times (which I can see you are disappointed) you will still need to support the right levels of A/F and have the support exhaust modifications also. (please don't take this as flaming).

Water/Alchy injection is used when you have achieved optimal timing and fuel and you have taken tuning to its limits..... water/alchy then allows you to push things even furher due to the benefits of reducing temps and therefor increasing the ceiling you have before detonation.

Don't give up and your tests and results are benefitting us all.

Your right- I am stupid to think that a couple of mods will drop my times to where I want to be. It's like playing the lottery- you know it won't happen, but god it sure would have been nice!

I won't give up- full exhaust is next, and that should help. Then we'll see from there. But I will go back to the track on friday with colder injection temps to see if that helps at all.

Thanks for the words of encouragement- I needed something to boost me up after being wrecked by all the american cars running 12's at the track! (Although, I did have the best looking car there- mine was the only one that was all the same color and no rust... haha, silly Indianians)

definately leave the nozzle where it is. i read somewhere on the net while researching this subject and it said not to put it before the intercooler. the water will likely never see the combustion chamber cuase there are soo many places for it to hide out in the intercooler. water is dumb, i twill go where it wants.

Awesome, I've been considering this for some time. Although where I sit now, I can't even get traction as is. Get that exhaust on there and head back to the track!

Unfortunately, yes, there are updates- the pump stopped working today! I don't understand- it is the same exact pump used in so many different kits. I have a feeling that it was used when I received it, because it had methanol inside it when I went to install it. So, right now, I'm stuck.

I'm so pissed, because I finally got a new exhaust- corksport power series. Just finished installing it today, but I can't do any more testing because the pump failed.

When the new pump comes in (I'm assuming the guy will replace it- he better!), I will hit the track with this and an exhaust- that should be more promising. The car feels way better at 14 psi with the new exhaust.

I know exactly when the pump went out, too- I was driving around, and I thought to myself "Hmm, this 12 psi feels slower than the 12 psi from 10 minutes ago".

Dammit.

EDIT!!!! I'm an idiot! A mounting screw was a bit too close to a wire- thats why the pump stopped working. I fixed it. Car is waaay faster now that I have working pump and new exhaust. Hopefully this time, I will have proof at the track- Friday!

For high-quality water injection systems aquamist is the way to go. When I finally do this I will be getting on of their systems.

You are right- even the more expensive and better looking kits still come with the same pump that I have. Some of the other companies just put their stickers on it. The aquamist kit seems to be the only one that is truly different from the rest.

On a side note, my car is now running about 9 psi (.63 bar) with my boost controller turned off- the Coksport exhaust made it run higher! I'm damn pleased with that. It even peaked at .7 bar! It doesn't hold, though, as I imagine the wastegate starts to do its job, but that just shows how much faster the boost is building up.

when do you think you will be getting the new pump? How hard would it be to have to remove all of this for a trip to the dealer?

I hope to get the new pump before friday (next track day)- the guy only lives about an hour from me. Worst case scenario, I'll drive up to him and pick it up.

This sytem would take like 15 minutes of VERY easy work to remove before going to the dealer. It is basically just removing some screws and the nozzle, and plugging the hole in the reservoir. But, I now have a trunk mounted tank, so it takes one less thing to remove.

I can't wait to try ice water/alcohol injection with my new exhaust! It actually wouldn't have mattered that my pump went out this friday anyway, because it rained too much to go to the track.

Your dealer would see the hole in your IC to TB piping if it was really close to your TB like it should be. The max benefit of these systems is on highly modified cars anyway, so if your worried about warrantee just wait.

Luckily, my dealer here is a non-mazdaspeed dealer, so a few things that are slightly "different" would go pretty much unnoticed. If I had to do anything, I would plug the hole with a black plumbing fitting- thats what I used to do on my firebird, and the techs never even noticed it.

My car is definitely slower without the water now- it stinks only running 9-10 psi again when I want to get kicked back in my seat like I used to with the water injection. If anybody lives near South Bend, I'll give them a ride in my car (when I get the pump back) to show that there is a really big SOTP difference, even if my track times sucked (mainly because I can't drive front wheel drive well yet).

I'M RETARDED! Yep, thats right- the pump never failed. A mounting screw on the pump *happened* (my fault) to get too close to a power wire, and I guess it wiggled itself through eventually. A trip to radio shack and 4 days later, the pump works great again. My tank is now trunk mounted and higher capacity, and I am using water/methanol blend now. The boost is still dropping off, but instead of dropping to 6.5 or so like it used to, now it drops to 9 psi from 11 psi. Not bad.

Once again, the car feels way faster, and hopefully I can prove it this friday.
