wastegate

Is there a way to replace to stock wastegate with an external one like tiel or turbonetics? How would you go about doing so?
And is it safe?

Stock wastegate should be sufficient with the stock turbo, even when boosting a little more than stock. Don't waste your money. Wait till you get a larger turbo to get a wastgate that will accomodate more boost.

Excellent point, the t25 is only good for 15psi of efficient boost, so if you want more power, its better to upgrade the turbo 1st, the t28 would be a wise choise, or t3/t4. Both can be externally gated to allow more boost, more efficiently, as well as flowing a much greater CFM, which is the important thing in making power from a turbo.

so if I get a custom intercooler w/hardpiping and custom CAI + 3"Turbo back exhaust w/High flow cat and boost to 11 - 12 psi I wouldn't need a external wastegate?

well eventually I will upgrade to a t3 and get spoolins manifold but until then I can deal with the stock one. I will want to upgrade my clutch and flywheel and then internals first so I can really make this puppy fly

its good for a few more pounds until work/heat take over and deem it inefficient...

a t-28 would be really be a waste. the size difference won't yield

in a pump gas street setup, your motor will be on the verge of dying, or already dead depending on tuning before you max out the eff. of the t25. the t-25 is quick spooling and for most people its not worth the cost of replacing because even with a larger compressor set at a lower boost level, the engine will internally be weak. not from the boost per say, more so the power being made by the engine. i don't believe the fs-de can handle 18psi of boost unless very well tuned(pump gas)! with supporting power mods, you'll want to upgrade the engine and turbo at the same time inorder to make more power...

i'm rambling... none of that probably makes sense.... :)

nah, you shouldn't need an external wastegate. kwiktsi is running 18 psi of boost with the stock turbo setup. you might encounter boost creep though with a 3" dp unless it's designed correctly...but a 3" dp is a little overkill for the t25. 2.5" should be fine and you prolly won't run into boost creep.

also, i'd get the internals taken care of before the clutch/flywheel. they're definitely the weak point of the motor. but once you've got those taken care of, you're good to go :D

hope that helps.
