Hi,
New to the forum so hello to all and thanks in advance if anyone is able to help.
I have a 1.8 petrol 2006 Mazda 5 TS. Car has covered 86,000 miles and I've only had it a few weeks. The engine management light has recently came on and my el cheapo ebay code reader (along with torque on my phone) is reporting 'P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire'.
Also noticed the car is burning an excessive amount of oil.
Had a look at the spark plugs and there is some oil gunked on there, which was probably the cause of the misfire.
Short of cleaning the plugs, sticking a heavier oil in it for a few months and hoping for the best, what could be the problem? I'm thinking piston rings? Engine rebuild?
Also thinking along the lines of a replacement engine, which might be less hassle than a rebuild - would the 1.8 unit from a Mazda 3 fit?
Finding it difficult to source another 1.8 L8 engine from another mazda 5 in my area and might have more luck sourcing a mazda 3 one - if it'll fit!
