ugh!! my car stopped running!

hmmm, is the crank fin an external piece or internal? it looks internal

its attached to the pulley. Those fins are fragile too...not hard to bend. Not saying for sure that is your problem but, your problem sounds exactly like what happened to mine.

When do you hear the clicking? Mine would try to crank, but wouldn't turn over. All while it was cranking, it sounded like fast clicking because the bent fin was hitting the sensor while it was turning. But would stop after I quit trying to start it.

hmm sounds the closest to my problem. but it clicked when i was leaving the park. i got to the 1st closest light and it was kinda clicking soft on idle, on rev-up it clicked a lil more and quieted out, and at the next light is when it died out on me.

I'd actually get under it and look at the fins to see if maybe one got bent or broken off somehow. It is exposed, so if thats the problem, its not unlikely that you ran over something that flew up and hit it. Then again, it could be a blown fuse just like twisfm said; so I'd check those out too.

yeah i plan on checking it all out. oh, and how would u fix it if that's the problem? like would u get under it and bend em manually?

I ended up buying an upgraded pulley anyway. You can try to bend it back into place, but its hard to do because they are so frail and must line up perfectly with the rest of the fins. I tried to do that with the stocker and it didn't work out so well. I got the car started, but it ran like straight ass. But I guess if you can get it started and get it to a shop or home, then thats better than paying for a tow.

true. my car is at least 40 to 50 miles from my house so the closer i can get it, the better. and i wonder... is it hard to swap it? if i can find one from a junk yard, i wonder if i can swap it myself.

Make sure you have an impact wrench. If you don't, its damn near impossible. I had to get a friend of mine do it at his shop; otherwise I would have been screwed. Make sure you check the other problems also before you go out buying parts. You could end up finding the problem elsewhere and being an easier fix.

yeah, If the engine starts and then sputters out it's not a broken belt but could be a crank or cam sensor issue. Also check the timing marks to make sure they still line up correctly. Belt might have jumped a tooth.

Check fuses too. Could be pump fuse is blown....

replaced clutch pressure hose 90.00$,bleed hoses 35.00$ brake fluid 15.00$ shop materials 15.00$ when it happend to me i thought it was my clutch and my brakes were soft too just ended up that the fluid had leaked out cuz it exploded look at your battery and see if there is brake fluid on it and see if any of the paint on your engine mounts is pealing it is a small rubber line you can see it easily if you have a cold air intake its right infron of the battery almost

k so i got to my car yesterday and tht wasn't the case.... i changed out the spark plugs and coil pak but nothing, then i took out the fuel pump and strainer and checked it out... no visible problems, but when i put it back in and turned the key, i didn't hear it turn on so to speak. so i think that might be the case.

if so, do the regular protege fuel pumps work for that too? or is it a higher flowing one than the N/A protege's?

Why not just go ahead and upgrade? I'm pretty sure a new walbro will only run you a little over $100.

k, so i dropped in the new fuel pump and it still wont start up. it will still crank , but at least now i can hear the fuel pump, whereas i didn't b4. k also my battery is drained..... any ideas?? and can anyone direct me to where the fuel pump fuse is? i never found it.
