turboing a P5

what do you have to do to put a turbo on a P5?
do you have to do any internal work like pistons, rods,sleves? and how mutch boost can you run before you need to do those things. also do you need an new clutch or any trany component when you put a turbo on?

question 2...not needed until about 10-12 psi...although this number is not certain..

also i dont have my P5 yeat:mad: (damb dealer trying to rip me of 3k:mad: ) , but what are the bad things about the P5? i know that there are bad things about every car, so whats the dirt on the P5 ?

Get the spool kit (see that terry i'm already pluggin for ya LOL) Bigger turbo bigger intercooler kit. and most of all MORE POWER to the tune of 198 whp at 6.5 psi with the intercooler and around 160WHP at 4.5 psi. Spool Turbos stuff is top notch highly recommend!!

go with the spo0Lin kit, no disrespect to the fm one but terry is just an awesome guy. i recently bought everything from him and everything was just the s***, if only i could get some instructions now (hint hint). heheheh, just my thoughts

If this helps...im going turbo on my P5 too, FMiata has a good setup, but Ive decided for the spool-turbo.com kit.

Even if still have the chance to get the mazdaspeed...

.

It went through my mind a lot, but I had to give a $5000 down for a total payment of $505/m, sell my wagon and my sisters protege.

I'm going to go ahead and say got with the FM Protege kit. It is pretty nice, the guys are cool...

And look at the Miata kits to see what they can do...It is only a matter of time before a Protege does similar stuff with their turbo kit.

And yes, I am biased!!

I emailed Spool, but they haven't gotten back to me?!?!
I was wondering because the Spool kit gets rid of one of the cats with the downpipe would it cause any problems with emissions say for california?
I know that the FMprotege retains 2 cats and therefore is emissions friendly, but the spool seems like it has good potential and upgradability.

I sport the BEGI/FM kit. Both kits are great, but the BEGI seems easier to install. I did it in 5 days by myself. If you are looking for a good kit that retains both cats, then the FM kit is for you. If you are just looking for raw power at the risk of CARB penalties if caught in a state that you could get in trouble for that type of thing, then Spool is you kit. FM will no doubt be ready with upgrades soon I suspect. Hurry up guys!
