Trunk Light Problem

Mazda Protege 5, 2002
I am new to this forum. Thanks for allowing me to post here.

I just purchased a 2002 Mazda Protege 5.

The luggage compartmen (trunk) light was fixed at the dealer when I purchased the used vehicle. But now it does not work again (after 4 days) with the switch in either postion.

All other lights in the car work, the bulb looks good with an ohm meter, but I can NOT detect 12V coming to the light socket.

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to track this problem down? Is there another switch or sensor for this somewhere?

Thanks everyone,

I am not sure which one to check given that all other lights work.

Thanks for posting the reply

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem and can't figure it out.

I have checked the fuse, its fine, besides all the other dome lights work fine. I put a multimeter on it and i can verify that the switch is working, but there is almost no voltage, only about 1V. I read somewhere that the trunk light is supposed to turn off when the trunk closes the light turns off automatically. This circuit must be somewhere and i have a feeling that it is failing.

i just broke mine

couldn't figure how to get the wire connecotr off, so i puleld, and broke it

so, i'ma put a small LED square insdie of it and go that route

I'd find where the switch that senses that the hatch is closed or open. I'll look at my car later when I get in again and see where that is. If that is broken it would stop all current to the light. A similar thing happened with the drivers door switch on my old car, eventually the ribber boot around the switch cracked and salt and crud got into the switch and it failed.

Edit:
Ok, so I took look around the hatch today and realized that there is no obvious switch there. I just assumed that it would be like the door open/closed switch on my old car.
