i got a 193$ ticket the other day in Hilsboro, NJ. i am gonna go to court to try and get them to lower it. i have been told i should ask for radar calibrations and they also spelled my town wrong on the ticket, which i heard could make it invalid (sounds untrue?) or i could just say i was goin around 50 so it would only be 98$. i figure its worth a shot, hopefully they will at least lower it. oh i was going 56 in a 35mph. so if i was 15-19 over it would only be 98$ where 20-24 is 193. any help would be great.

the best way to ge tout of a ticket, is to not speed.

asking for radar calibrations and nitpicking about the way things are spelled on the ticket will only get you on the bad side of the court.

If you're under 21, ask if you can go to defensive driving school or work the ticket off somehow... don't lie to the judge, that will only piss him/her off. One thing my cousin suggested (a state trooper in VA) is to take your car to a shop and have your speedometer calibrated. That is the way most of the tickets he's given are thrown out. It might be worth a shot if you know someone who works in a shop. Good luck.

in alabama a regular ticket(one under 25mph) is 146.50 and one that is over 25mph is 180 something like that
i was going 69 in a 45... you do the math, you'll realize i was very very close hehe

There aren't any real 'tricks' to use. Just be honest and decent to the officers and the court. Don't go in dressed like a thug. Don't have beepers and phones hanging off your hip and don't talk like you're a gangsta. You were speeding. You know it, they know it. The best thing to do (as long as you don't have a history of speeding) is to plead a 'no contest' and request no points. They may even reduce the fine. I don't mind paying my speeding tax every now and then. I just don't want to pay the insurance company any more money.

Yes there is a real trick for you to use...I live in central jersey and the best way is when you go into court plead NOT GUILTY...Then go talk to the prosecutor...he will ask what happned...and then you ask him to lower the points on the ticket...the will usually help u out...

for me i have noticed that if
1)you get a 6 point ticket...they will drop it to 4 maybe 2 if you have a really nice prosecutor
2) you get a 4 point ticket...they will drop it to 2 points
3) you get a 2 point ticket..they will not drop the points!

Hillsborough is terrible when it comes to tickets...i know many people who get busted in Hillsborough all the time...

Your best bet to get out of the ticket ...is getting a lawyer...

Good Luck

just show up, dress nice, and hope for the best...I've gone in a couple times, and each time, I've barely spoken...other than saying my name, usually the officer or the prosecuter chimes in, says "your honor, we would like to change the charge to carry no points and $100 fine for a guilty plea" the judge looks at you, you nod, pay $100 and you're on your way... (knock on wood)
I've had that happen several times now (over about 8 yrs though) (knock on wood again :) )
Respect and you will be respected. good luck

thanks guys, i guess ill will be honest and straight up with the judge and everything. i relize i was speeding and i will pay the 193$ if i have to. but i figure what the hell if a trip to the court house might save me a few bucks its worth a shot. As for driving school and a lawyer i dont think that would be neccesarry id rather just pay the money. like many have said i will dress nice and be very polite and friendly and hopefully they will lower the ticket. I dont think i get any points b/c it was out of state. It just pisses me off because the road i was on should be at least 45, its in the middle of no where everyone goes fast, i was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time. well thanks for the help. wish me luck on 2-4-03.

Who cares about the fine, I'd rather pay the full $193 and have no points, then pay the extra money that you will have to for insurance.
