Has any one put a 18" with a 225/40/18 tire with out ne trouble?????

Yes sir, a lot of guys/gals are running that size with no problem on their 5's.

I'm running 225/40 with a 2" drop and no trouble at all, go for it...

keep in mind that offset of your rims matters. I'd suggest getting rims with offset +42 and up

I think you may have posted to the wrong section. You have a Protege 5 correct? This is the Mazda 5 tire/wheel section.
So 18's on a P5 may or may not work.
