If I do a hard shift from first to second above 4500 rpms It will grind and sometimes not go in at all. It has the original clutch and probly the original gear oil. I would think it being a synchro it would do it all the time but I don't know much about transmissions. If I rev it up high in 1st and lightly put pressure on it going into second after it gets below 4500 rpms itl go right in with no grinding

I would start be changing your gear oil. I use royal purple of mobil 1. It does sound like you have a bad synchro or shift fork... Hopefully fresh oil will help. My 1.6l has always had a harsh engagement with 1-2 hard/fast shifts. I just let the revs drop before I hit the shift gate...

yup, syncros. start by changing the fluid with a good synthetic. if it still grinds, either learn to shift softly, or get a rebuild.

I don't drive it hard anymore problem is I can't find anyone in my area to rebuild a manual and I don't wana take a chance and get a junkyard transmission

The transmission is much more complicated than rebuilding an engine.

I suggest having help from someone who actually knows what they are doing..

That's what I was thinking were looking to auto cross it so a spare would be nice at least at that point I'll mess it up or know I can rebuild a trans
