Suv's

Funny thing is they burned a lot of plastic, rubber and paint into the atmosphere, not to mention the VOCs in the spray paints. The ELF is responsible for the greenhouse effect now!

There are more constructive ways to change things, they could get an education and become the president of the EPA or get in Congress ...

But no one votes for stinky hippies who live in trees and come from the suburbs!

Those ELF people are idiots, but I will never believe that BS I need the space argument. I've driven a multitude of SUV's. The only ones that truly have any extra space over a normal passenger car are the big boys (Expedition, Excursion, Suburbans). If I wanted to I could probably cram 3 bodies in the cavern on the back of our Honda, and if I need room I could fold the seats down and add a couple more. All that and I get 30MPG on the highway, and can go 0-60 in sub 7. People buy SUV's because they want to be cool, have things like their neighbors have, and think that driving a station wagon raised up is better than driving a station wagon riding the ground. If you really needed all that space then a nice F-150 or Silverado with a supercab (back seat in the Silverado is as big as any SUV I have ever ridden in) and you have a whole bed you can fill up with crap (honest to God crap, who is going to put a pile of manure in the back of their SUV?).

Exactly...That's why I got my Dodge RAM Quad Cab. I'm making 305HP and 550lb Ft torque and getting close to 20MPG. And guess what...it's turbo (25lbs boost stock) and runs off Diesel that costs $1.49 a gallon. No premium gas needed.

This kind of thinking is so ******* ignorant. So I gues by your logic ALL OTHER P5 dirvers are ignorant fools too just like you?

I own an MSP and a Nissan Pathfinder. So what does that make me, half someone you hate and half someone you want to be?

You ever try to move, go camping, carry 2 dogs, or home improvment equipment in the back of an economy car? I didn't think so.

And these ELF guys.. what a buch of losers. All the CFCs they released into the atmosphere with that spraypaint and by burning cars and people's homes is WAY worse for the environment than the pollution caused by the SUVs they destroyed. and unless they got to the dealerships by riding on a bicycle their just a bunch of hippocrates.

You all need to grow up. Especially those of you bitching about SUVs while taking out the CATs on your cars to make them faster.. your argument is a joke

Well said. It is never cool to destroy anything, no matter what. These ELF people, once they are caught, should be charged with all kinds of enviornmental laws as well having to buy each and every SUV that they destroyed.

There is no excuse for doing this, and there is no excuse for those members on this board who support these types of activities.

I agree I have to have my minivan and has nothig to do about ego has to do with kids. Plus I don't want them trashing my MSP

I'll flatly diagree with you here. I've tried to fit both the kids, strollers, diaper bags and other stuff in the back of the P5 and yes I can do it, but only by forcing the hatch door closed and bending parts of the strollers. With the Rodeo I can fit everything without damaging it and still fit both car seats without having to push the seat forward. At 6'3" I really can't fit well in a car with the seat pushed up. You try driving for 3-4 hours with your knees crammed up against the sterring wheel, it's not fun. There are uses for SUVs. Would I perfer to have a sports car instead, hell yes. We had to give up both the sports cars so that we could get the kids in both cars if needed so we've got an SUV to do longer trips in and carry large object, like the bath tub, drywall, paint, sink and paint I put in the bathroom a few months ago, and the P5 in case we need to carry the kids if the Rodeo is broken or is needed for carring stuff.

meh, ELF has a purpose. they are just like the radical left like the black panthers or whatnot. They are there to balance out the ultra right. ;)

and though you can complain about them using spraypaint and that hurts the environment its pretty clear that what these people have done is a MESSAGE. its not about pissing off the owners of a few SUVs, its to tarnish the image of them so people wont buy them.

---

that being said, i dont support their actions. I think legal and political pressure as the best way to enact change that will be accepted by the mainstream.

eh, in my book they have only accomplished one thing, tarnish THEIR OWN image. if you go to the site (www.earthliberationfront.com) you will see that their whole thing is violence; blowing things up/setting things on fire. i completely disagree with this philosophy. they argue that this is the ONLY way to "protect" nature. hmm burn s*** down and blow things up... hmm... fire=smoke=-(environment)

hmm thought up of another thing to do to them while typing this... you could stick a small ferret in their ass and it'll claw its way out...

We live in a country that is founded on freedom of choice, although I laugh at the guys driving Escalades with spinners, its thier choice to do so. I in no way condone what the ELF morons are doing. If they want make a diffrence then educate people, dont destroy their property.

Groups like ELF are mostly composed of misguided attention ****** who dont have a clue about how the real world operates, and b**** and complain about everything without offering solutions.

That is why they make midsize cars and wagons, which have just as much space in the back as an SUV.

man, what's happend?? this is america, land of the free! we can buy whatever we want, drive whatever we can afford. i do have a ford explorer, and it's actually to small for my family of five, but i'm not getting a bigger one, kids are getting there own cars now.
my 2 cents on the subject.

Truck based SUV's themselves are a menace to both their owners and the rest of us. High center of gravity, poor impact energy absorption, a huge amount of mass, rotten fuel economy, and poor rollover protection have all been hallmarks of the class since its inception and contribute to the high injury and mortality rate associated with SUV accidents.
I am as anti-SUV as you can get (unless you REALLY have to go offroad), but I disagree with ELF's actions. There are other ways to educate people than by breaking the law. Time to publicize the studies already done and continue to perform new MVA injury studies to try and make better passenger vehicles all around.

I was a HUGE advocate of, "don't need an SUV..." My Protege and trailer can haul tons of crap. Even w/out the trailer the fold down seats enable you to haul lots of stuff. I used the trailer and car to haul my PA equipment to gigs.

BUT! I strayed recently. My wife and I got a Mazda Tribute to replace her car. Basically a tall car with truck tires and all wheel drive. Still considered an SUV though. Decent gas mileage. Its only 2-3 MPG down on highway mileage from my Protege! Sometimes we get the same highway MPG.(sad news for the Protege really). Fold down the seats and I can haul all my PA equipment without the trailer. We just picked up a washer and dryer last week. Try that in a car. The Protege hauled my motorcycle around quite good considering. But the extra 2000 pounds of towing capacity of the Tribute sure helps.

There is a use for SUV's. I agree that many people should just give it up and get a car. I personally get very annoyed when I see some little gal(or guy) in an Excursion that you know darn well will never tow, haul, or do anything but pollute and waste space. But there are quite a few that really do use them for what they are intended for.
