Street Prepared Classing?

Ok, I'm confused here and wonder if some of you can help. I'm living in Canada so when it comes to classing/rules we do some weird things here at times. The plan for this year is to use the SCCA classing with the CNAC(Canadian) rules.

That is all well and good. According to the SCCA classing, in stock form, the MP3 is considered GS(while a normal Protege would be HS). The problem comes in Street Prepared. If I fall under that category, the only mention I see is of just "Protege" under FSP. I've been told though that my car is a special version of the Protege so wouldn't fall under that(even tho that kinda doesn't ring true otherwise the ES 2.0 shouldn't fall under just "Protege" either as MP3 is really just a moniker the same way as ES 2.0) The MP3 is not listed anywhere else on the list so I've been told that because of that, I'll fall under the catch all
category of CSP which from what I've seen is a far tougher class. From looking at other cars in GS, a lot of them seem to go to DSP so I would expect that for the MP3 too.

So can anybody give clarification/assistance on what my car should be in Street Prepared?

I just took a look at my 2003 rulebook, and it looks like a simple omission to me. I agree that the MP3 should probably go into DSP, as should my MSP, but it's not in the book. I would recommend sending an email to the SPAC (?) and ask them to submit clarification in the Fast Track in Sportscar Magazine...

For now, the "all sedans over 1.7l and under 3.0l not otherwise classed" for CSP seems to be a problem. I don't think the FSP entry would directly apply because there are other entries than simply "Protege" in the stock classes.

I could, of course, be totally off base: the majority of MY experience is in STS, and now STX....

Yeah I was thinking of sending an email to the SCCA, altho I was hoping that someone here already had experience with the classing in SP as we have a fair amount of autoXers.

Here in Texas, I raced under Novice FSP last event. That was what the autocross club members recommended to me if I wanted to race under Novice with my mods.

I'm jumping into the STS class since I have nothing to lose. The rules here is after 6 events under Novice (i.e. NFSP), you have to pick another group out of Novice... so I just picked STS (where they don't have a Novice group) for future events as I paid for my membership fee.... FSP is too tough for me here.

p.s. - so yeah, my options were:

NFSP
STS
FSP

STS is a GREAT class. I spent 2 years there with my Celica and had a wonderful time!

I'd recommend subscribing to the Yahoo!streettouring email post forum. Very interesting discussions about what is and isn't legal, and different ideas. It gets a bit personal sometimes, but there's nothing unusual in that ...

Unfortunately, the confusion over where the MP3 should go in SP is a real problem. I would expect you to get protested if you tried to run FSP at a national level event. Obviuosly, locally is no problem as long as no one locally objects, but theigs get a bit more intense at the national level.

Another major plus to STS: TIRES!!!! You can spend $300 for a competitive set of tires, instead of $500+ for Stock and SP.... (Falken Azenis are the bang for buck leaders. BFG gforce KDs are a bit better, but TWICE as expensive, and Bridgestone PP S-03s are a bit better in the wet or on really bad surfaces, but give up a bit on smooth concrete or asphalt.

Who says?
I'd like to know as well, because I want to know where to class my as-yet-to-arrive MSP.

Sorry, I should have said, "in our area" the plan is to use the CNAC ruling with the SCCA car classing. So does anybody have an email addy for the ruling board of the SCCA so we can get this matter rectified?
