Stock Tires

The stock tires are awesome in the dry, for grip and cornering. When this set gets bald, I'm getting some more Bridgestones, they ******* rock.

I like the stock tires... they fit the car. If you want all season performance and long last tread life, consider a tire for a minivan.

You can't have everything. You either get a performance tire or a long life tire or a snow tire... etc... .OR you get a compromise of some aspects of all of those tires. So, you'll get a so-so performance tire and so-so snow tire... Just promise you won't come back here and say how bad your new tires are and how it's probably the MSP's fault when your new high mileage all season tires suck.

The best 'compromise' tire I've used is a Bridgestone RE950. I have them on a Jetta. They're great in rain, dry, etc.. and are very quiet. I haven't used them in the snow but, if it snows a lot, I'd either stay home or buy snow tires.

I highly recommend the Yoko AVS ES100's for a great street performance tire. I had them on a Miata and loved them. I doubt they'd last more than 30,k... maybe 20,k if you do a dozen autocrosses a year. I wouldn't want a tire that lasted longer than that on a car designed to perform.

Most importantly, GET AN ALIGNMENT. My car is out of spec but, the dealer says it is because they didn't really check it and don't want to do the work. However, it's a mandatory thing I do whenever I get new tires. Many people that complain about their tires have never had an alignment or had a bad one.

Everyone talks s*** about the RE040's, but they're standard equip on Prosche and Ferrari. Not bad company.

I like OEM tires...i wish they weren't so much to replace....my next set is either gonnna be kuhmo mx or yoko AVS ES100

DON'T DRIVE THE STOCK RE040'S IN SNOW

I'm going for the Eagle F1's as my next set... made in Germany for Goodyear (LOL but true!).

DO NOT DRIVE THE STOCK RE040'S IN SNOW!!!

it's been said before but bears repeating... they're bad, really bad, I'd say about impossible, and that's from a guy who's driven over a quarter million safe car miles in snow/ice. Get snows or at least all-seasons for winter. They cost less than your deductible, and are far more attractive. They also store like this if you have a garage...

So, your advice makes sense.... Do not use something specifically designed for one scenario, in a completely different one.

I used Bridegstone Turanza's in the snow... also a bad snow tire... because it's NOT a snow tire. I would think anything designed for dry, warm pavement only would not work well in the snow.

yeah, it really is that simple but yet we still get the average joe cool know it all dood that thinks....hey, they can't be that bad, and then wraps his nice new Mazda around a pole.

Every other car I have owned besides the mp3/MSP, I didn't care if there was a little snow down when I had my summers on....but these cars...forget it. It ain't worth the risk

That being said, this is the warmest October we have EVER had. STill wearing shorts up here. Strange.

Anyone got any more opinions about the new BF g-forces. The tread looks damn grippy, but wondering for rain??

i had no treads left on my front two stock msp tires at 10k miles. i don't drive too hard and never really spun out badly but i drive over the mountains every day (~75 miles).

i'll be getting snow tires in the next month or two, as recommended by the dealership and the folks here. still not sure what i'll be getting though. got my msp at the end of last winter and it drove okay on the roads but if i put it in the dirt lot by my apartment and it snowed much that night it was NOT movin out of there until most of the snow melted.

Recommendations:

Goodyear Eagle F1 (GS-D3) (124$)
Kumho Ecsta MX (115$)
Yokohama AVS es100 (96$)
Falken GR Beta (96$)

I've heard good stuff about the Yokohama's. How are the Kuhmo's compared to the Yoko's?

Futura

I'm going to get some Futura Tires from Pep Boys. Can never go wrong with Pep Boys, their tires have good ratings and are cheaper.

As ARunto said, the Kuhmos are great but are pretty soft. I had a set on my old car, they are really nice tires but if you drive harsh, expect to replace soon. On my MSP I am running the Yokohamas. They aren't as soft as the Kuhmos but I still love them. I am going to get my second set sometime next week.

The 225's don't rub?
How is the wet grip with them ?
Thanks.

Nope perfect fit...its been raining all day today in florida and when i get on the gas in first gear..then let loose and in second but in turns the stick like a mother F*$ker.......the tred wear is 280 but traction is "AA"!!!!! i definatly recomend them...even at 130mph..they are smooth...

if i could afford them, i would get nokian hakapelitas for the winter. they are a studless z rated radial. My buddy had them on his TT and they rocked on dry pavement too. Im sure no one has even heard of these but they are made in norway and a re pretty pricey at over 200 a tire for 215/45/17 but i live in PA ( not as bad as u northerners) but i had we are gonna have a pretty brutal winter, so im thinkin of some snow tires or some cheap all seasons. As for what im going to replace my re040's with? I think they are damn good tires. But i can get the Potenza S03s for cheaper then the re040s so im leaning towards those are maybe yoko paradas or yoko advans like my buddys lancer(oem) however id have to look into rain traction so ill prolly get the s03s. Anyway good luck with yer tire search. Also i have 4k miles and ive rotated my tires twice and they still have alot of good wear left, anal? y u ask cuz i read a write up on the car in SCC last year and i remember them saying the re40s need to be rotated frequently to even try to promote even tread wear. Anyway im done later!

S-03's are GREAT tires, but wear fast. Had 'em on a Jetta. No other drawbacks for me ('cept they aren't winter tires either, and are a little spendy).
