THank's. Did anyone else notice rapid wear. I know I drive hard in the twisties about twice a week, but s***...My front tires are wasted after 6500 miles...and i'm not drag racing at all.

Just venting

that's normal wear for these tires...they do wear fast...look to get about 20-25k at most with good rotation

Man does that BLOW...I was thinking about trying a different tire.

Now will it be sketchy for me to have the same size, but different tires on front and back. With that good ole understeer my fronts are waisted but my rears are perfect. Too late to rotate, then I'll really kill myself once the rain comes.]

So is it a bad idea to have different brands on, or does it not matter...THanks

well the RE040's are known to be bad in bad weather even at full tread...they are mainly a dry performance tire.

I dare say that if the other brand of the tires is of comparable grippiness -- meaning, same type of tire and has gotten somewhat similar ratings, then it should be OK.

Of course, the problem is that the brand you wanna try out is better than the stock tires, which it probably will be, then keep in mind that you'll get half your car at stock traction and half your car at better than stock traction. If the better than stock tires are of the same type (all seasons), then you should get a relatively consistent difference in handling at all times.

However, if the other two tires are winter tires or performance slicks, you'll have a situation where in certain conditions your car will lose front traction before the rear, and in others the rear will lose traction before the front. This can be dangerous.

All of this in my unprofessional opinion.. feel free to bash :)

The Potenza re040 is a summer tire. It is supposedly impossible to drive on them in snow. I just got snows mounted on steelies for winter. My re040 are wearing quick. One of my rears is scalloped. Either from alignment or unbalanced but they aren't on the car right now. Go to tirerack.com and check out some tires they should have some answers to your questions too

Potenza re040s have a treadwear rating of 140... of course theyre gonna wear fast.
Theyre made for gripping in corners, and have good traction, not quite drag radial, but close... it may suck to wear tires out fast, but if we didnt have some good tires stock, then youd lose most of the handling, and alot of the straight line grip we have.
You should get more than 6500, unless you drive on them very hard, which you said you do.

Thanks. Are those Yoko's primarily for dry/summer? I likee da price. Had a bad experience with Falkens...Can't go wrong with Kumho.

Recommendations:

Goodyear Eagle F1 (GS-D3) (124$)
Kumho Ecsta MX (115$)
Yokohama AVS es100 (96$)
Falken GR Beta (96$)

Has anyone tried the bfgoodrich g-force drag radials yet?

I knew when I got my car i was gonna tear the s*** out of the tires so I put a used set of milennia tires (free) on the front for burnout and drag durability and now they are finally bald so the new oem tires are going on for the summer

most "performance" tires are summer/dry.. but i have no major drivability issues in the wet. Hasnt snowed(yet)...
yokohama avs es100s are great tires from what my friend says, hes got em on his 240whp miata.

Hey Gbourdon !

Funny- my rear tires also seem to be out of alignment also (wearing on the insides).

Question-- I see you are in Keene. Where did you get your MSP? (could the dealer be the common thread here?)

Its normal for performance cars to wear tires on the inside rear. It is due to the negative camber dialed in for handling. My 300zx and 280z did it bad. Rotating often helps.

Also chekc out tirerack.com for tire ratings and comparisons. I am leaning towards the Dunlops for my next set. A wear rating of 280 and better wet and dry handling not to mention less road noise than the RE040.

I would recommend:
Draging/Autocross/Track: Yokohama A032R's
All Street Around Performance: BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW 2(My Pick)
Budget Sensitive Performance: Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712
