Stereo Removal

I have just bought a 2002 protege DX and I am new to this forum.

I am tring to remove my factory head unit and replace it with an eclipse. But I am having a problem removing the head unit. I have tried using stereo removal tools but they don't seem to work. The right side of the stereo seems to want to come out but the left side won't budge. Am I doing something wrong? Or if u have any other ideas; any help is appreciated.

The clips in my P5 did the same thing. the first time I took out the stock HU it took me like 45 minutes. Every time after that it has only taken a few minutes. You have to get the clips pushed in just right and pull out at the same time. Try removing the little plate where the cassette player is supposed to go if you don't have one. That will give you alot of leverage. Keep trying it will come out, just don't force anything!!

Yeah, when I first took my radio out the first time it was a little difficult. I ended up just taking a few coat hangers and making 4 U shaped pieces and that did the trick. I just pulled the front of the cassette deck off and pulled from there to get leverage while I pushed the tabs with the coat hanger.

Thanks for all ur help. I have was able to get the HU out and successfully installed the new. I am going to try and get some pics up over the weekend of the stereo and car. Nothing to special about the car just yet, expect for it being a Mazda that is. Once again thanks for help.

yea i was having trouble with hangers when i was working last weekend on my DX. i just ended up and took out the glove box, popped the center console piece loose and reached up on either side. i was able to push each clip out from the back. its quite a reach.

I LOVE BEING SKINNY!!
