Speakers on hatch cover on P5

i am talking about a 6 speaker set up. and then u have an amp to the 6x9 with gain controls...u just adjust them based on your needs right. In my case i have my front speakers powered with the kenwood..rear from the HU...then i would either get a 2 channel or 4 channel amp maybe 40x2 40x4rms. and either power just the 6x9 in boxes or both rear door and 6x9. Also on the 6x9 amp u would adjust the cutoff so that u just get mids and highs. i would say a pioneer 3way 6x9 that isnt bass heavy and has really crisp range.

Keep something in mind.
audio coming form behind you is BAD is term os SQ. There should be no precievable audio behind you. After all do you go to concerts and turn your back to the stage? Now thats the set rule of SQ. Many people like more full sound, so at best you want the rears to be about the same as the fronts. Other people just want VOLUME, they really don't care how they get it. This is where amping rear speakers like that fit in.

For an example, I had a set of MB quart Q serie4s components in kick panels powered by a 200 x 2 watts rms amp (Alpine MRV-F505 bridged) and the rear stock kenwood 6x9s with only the radio powering them were louder. This is becuase of how high and unobstucted they were.

yep hes right, tahts why home theater recievers always run lesss power to the rear speakers for regular stereo sound. Otherwise it sounds so bad. As bad as my radio with the front speakers not working at all (amp en route)

sound quality my friend.

Its about the hardest thing to truely obtain in a car.
I have listened to alot of cars many were competition cars and only a few had really achieved great SQ. The 2 cars that really stick out was a blazer I listened to at a show a year ago after my friend that is a judge was done with it and Derrick Kenney's built supra for his shop, Sound-In-Motion. Both were incredible. You could EASILY pick out the exact location of any instrument and the stage exteneded outside of the car. Very Cool.

I agree sq is really hard cause you have to deal with sound stage, angling the speakers, quality and clarity of the sound, placement of the speakers, level sound feild, and soooo much more. I was trying to do sq in my civic but decided to only race my civic, hard to balance weight of stereo system and racing. Our mp5 will be the sound and show car. Besides, the kids like the car and ar in it more so the monitors will go in the mp5 instead along with the laptop.

ok so if speakers are bad to have behind u why are there always speakers behind u in a car..especially the larger more powered ones. I have had many systems that had great sq and generally they were heavy in the rear. This is the first system with a stronger front. But for practicality reasons this idea would come in handy when your friends are blocking your speakers with their legs. competitions dont factor reality...so ignore my idea..i will do it and we will see...actually i will see and u will all miss out...your loss

:wtf:

when your friends are blocking with their legs? what are you smoking? we're not packing 20 people in the car and rushing the border here...

what r u talking about the front speakers in the p5 are soo easy to block with just 2 legs...what r u smoking dont your friends have legs

It works

I've got two 8 inch free air subs mounted in my rear deck lid and I think they sound just fine. That lid is a lot more sturdy than you may think. Go for it.

(lol)

If a piece of MDF is barely sturdy enough to withstand the pressure and vibrations of subwoofers, what makes you think a flimsy piece of plastic is?

Notice I mentioned "pressure". You can't presurize anything if there is no seperation between the front and rear of your woofer.

. . .and when is this phenomenon of 6x9 speakers going to die? I can't stand the sound of them.

Do you have a pic of the 8's installed? Are you talking hatch lid or hatch cover that keeps people from seeing what you have in the back? I was wondering how hard it would be to install speakers in the rear hatch and how much room you would have.

I'm curious as to whether a set of 4" components will fit on either side of the rear window in the pilars. Someday I'll go exploring.

Curioser and curioser...... my wifes mp5 may be a show car yet with a kicken sound system.

has anyone thought of fiberglassing the back hatch peice and putting a sub w/ a low cf rating into it. maybe you could drill a hole into the hatch and run the wires through it like mazda did for the lite over your plate. im thinking about trying it but I need some opions. I would like too but would it look supid or just sound stright up bad

Any sub that requires a box would just be a paper weight in no time s a trunk is hardly an enclosure. You are thinking free air subs.

Maybe something like this car at Sema it looked very nice but I didn't get a really detailed shot.

Bottom line is.....its you car. I think that if you put speakers in that thin fiber cover of your cargo area....the sound will be crappy.....there will be vibrations, and the cover will end up falling apart. Sure, its easy to replace..but at what expense? Dealers aren't known for thier discount parts.

If you are going for SQ, than, for you own sake...don't do it. 6x9" speakers are good in doors, or as replacements for stock 6x9"s, but they are not good for total sound quality.

Like the someone else said, sound quality is gotten from the speakers infront of you. Even to the sides of you to some extent. But in the rear? Nope. That is why subwoofers are put in the rear of the car. Not just cause its easier, but because bass is unidirectional. Where as mids, and highs are directional sounds. There is a science behind all of this. Audiology perhaps? I don't know the name...but its there....just ask Bose.

From the rear, that guy's front seats look like they belong in an X-Wing. Nice install though.

Image Dynamics subs...good choice.
