Speakers on hatch cover on P5

I was wondering if anyone put some speakers on the hatch lid..

I was thinking about putting a couple 6x9's on it, and wire them in as rear speakers, instead of the ones on the rear doors!

the rear deck seems a little weak to support a pair of 6x9s...i have seen it done before, you would open the hatch and the wires weould be dangling down visible from the hatch. Plus, then you just leave the doors empty? seems ghettofabulous to me.

What about in the rear hatch. I thought that would be cool for the like the beach or something. Just open the hatch and the speakers are pointing out.

actually the hatch lid is some pretty stiff stuff.. i bought one w/ holes cut out already... gonna put in a pair of 6x9... powered by an amp.. but i need to pick up the amp.. hehe so i'll probally have it up and ready in 2-3 weeks :) i'll let you all know how it goes

Are we talking about the actual hatch or the shelf that covers the back area? I think speakers on the actual hatch door would be great as long as the opening and closing of the hatch doesn't knock the speakers off!

I would love the rear door, but don't know about spacing behind the cover..

But I am talking about the shelf..

1. can be replaced if needed, easily.
2. I was gonna make it so I can disconnect the speakers if I need to be able to remove the shelf..

and more things, can't think right now..

There probably isn't enough dpeth for a good pair of 6x9s not to mention when the hatch was opened they would face downward not out.

Considering the work involved, the wasting of a panel....get a boom box.

The rear doors have dones of depth, check the sticky for that info.

If you mean that 1/16" partical board POS that covers the cargo area then think of something else. That is flimsy as hell and the 6x9s will just jump on it. Not to mention its audio rice since its about the farthest thing from SQ you could do.

However if you must, then cut your holes and reinfore the back of the board with a peice of 1/2" MDF then add some thick weather stripping to the back of it and by where the hatch will contact it. This way it sits much tighter and won't vibrate so much.

i have an idea that is alot easier and that i might myself do. U buy 6x9 boxes to put the speakers in...attach to shelf...hide wires. then u dont ruin your shelf...the speakers are movable. But definately use an amp and keep your door speakers. Also if u dont use boxes the speakers wont be very audible...they will point up and reflect off the roof as opposed to goin forward.

Try this: Build a box with a sub inclosure along with inclosures for 6x9's on the top, make sure the inclosures for the 6x9's are seperate from the sub inclosure. Put the 6x9s in the box so that when the cargo cover is down its real close to the speakers. Then cut holes in the cover above the speakers, if you do this right it will look real factory like, just put some foam or rubber in between the cover and speakers to prevent rattling. This way you can take the speaker box out to carry stuff.

------\ 6x9 /---------\ 6x9 /-----

I hope this turns out I haven't figured out how to draw and attach to the site yet.

i think the 6x9 enclosures facing forward on top of the hatch shelf are still the easiest and fastest alternative. Also u could remove or replace your back headrests and the music will play straight at your head...it would be sick...way better than component speakers. 6speaker system + sub with 2-3 amps would be insanity, peace

You'll just have 6x9's shouting off the glass resonsating the hgher frequences and drowneding out all other sounds. It will be terrible SQ. So like I siad, it will be just loud.

no no...the 6x9's will face the driver..the will sit on the shelf and face forward. It would be nice cause the speaker location on our cars sux. the door speakers are easily blocked and seperate tweeters cant compensate for the mid range loss. the shelf speakers would send very clear mids and highs to all passengers while not getting blocked...they can have alot of power too. I personally might do this myself but the rear headrests would have to be removed. its an idea...i would like to see it done.

Thats just as bad as the ONLY thing you will hear is the 6x9's. Any aspect of Sq (imaging, stage, tonal accuracy) will be out the GONE!

Again you will have only volume and you probably won't want to listen to it after 5 minutes and your ears ringing.

I would stick with the rear speaker locations. Run them off the deck and upgrade the fronts and put a serious amp on them.
