Skid Plates

Here's a new one - does anyone know if there are skid plates available for the 5? We're on the third year of the city / town not having enough money to salt / clear streets and there are a lot of chunks of ice. My wife's TDI Beetle as a "Panzer Plate" and I can hit just about everything with it without hurting the oil pan / bottom engine. Just curious for the new Mazda5 that (corss fingers) should be here next week.

There is a huge hard plastic/rubberized splash shield covering the bottom of the engine. The oil change person
has to remove 7 bolts and 2 plastic fasthers to get to the oil pan drain. So I don't think chunks of ice will ever hit
the oil pan.

If you are talking about that mound of hardened snow that accumulates in the center of the roads..
I understand you concern. My splash shield is very well polished from 'gliding' over the center snows.

Got some photos of the under carriage:

My VW's had (read:HAD) those plastic parts - my experience is that they dont hold up long to road ice, roadkill, wife :D
