short shifter!

what do you guys think of this short shifter for our 5. www.srmotorsport.com has one for $249 biggies. the price is throwing me off for starter. man that's a lot of money for a 20% less shift throw. maybe we can start a group buy or something... let me contact the co. and see if they can do that.

Yeah, I've heard of others complain about their prices too. It's a shame because from what I've found, presently srmotorsports is about the only supplier of performance parts for the 5. When you have all that R&D for a part that won't sell in great quantity, they've gotta ask more to get an acceptable profit margain. Bottom line, I think their prices are at least fair.

My major complaint with my gearbox is the 4 -> 5 shift. It's too sloppy. I'd definately be up for a group buy of this, except I'm on a bertight budget w/ the lil tyke on the way (braindead

Took me a while to find it, since they had it in the Suspension section. Besides more power, a shorter/tighter shifter is something this car seriously needs. But I don't know about $250....Most of their prices are pretty high, but I think we already had this discussion about this company.

off topic: congrats on the lil one comin'... you will love the sliding doors... i have two little ones myself and they love the 5. they like goin' in and out from the back of the 5 (with the seats folded of course)

Buyer right here. But I don't want some cheap ass stock shifter chopped an inch and a half. I want a real geometrically modified short shifter, with at least a 30% throw reduction and stiffer bushings to firm up the shifts.

20% is nothing. On my current car, I went from stock to 80% throw reduction with 1 inch shorter rod. That was a little too agressive for me, so I went to a 58% reduction with a 1 inch shorter rod. After driving with this, I don't ever want to drive my car with anything else.

browsing around at SS's for other models of cars, I can see and agree that $250 is pretty rediculous after all.
That being said, I won't count myself out of this quite yet. I MAY be interested dependent upon the price offered. Sorry I can't be more firm than that right now. Thanks for the offer Captain!

I have Short Throw Shift Plate kits available for the 5. 33% reduction and mounts to the transmission side. No removal of the shifter or console required. $80 shipped.
