Hello all,

Been thinkin' an awful lot about air induction, and wanted to get everyone's opinion on which is the best way to go with our cars.

I've already heard the standard K&N cone filter creates a drop in power, so I didn't include that here.

I'm a little put off by the hydrolock aspect of the CAI but have heard good things about it.

Right now, the Drop in Filter is a cheap mod that some people have said makes a noticable difference.

Has anyone put an AEM Short-Ram intake on the MSP?? If so, how has it affected performance, and do you have any pictures?

In generel though, I just wanted people's opinions on the three comparitively.

Please let's not make this a flamewar. In fact, it would be helpful if you didn't even acknowledge anyone elses opinions. Just looking to gather public knowledge. Thanks everyone.

I'd wait for the K&N typhoon if it is indeed coming out. They're supposed to make a huge difference...

And what, pray tell, is the K&N typhoon?

But please don't tell me to search. I'm no newbie.....it's just 11:00 and I have no patience for wading through people arguing over which lion in Voltron was the most badass only to find the words "K&N" and "Typhoon" were really just references to obscure Bandai toys released in Japan in the mid-80's.

OK...sounds good. In the meanwhile, it's time for this MSPimp to go to bed while pleasant thoughts of AGR's signature still frolick around in my cerbreal cortex.

Short ram,,,,,

It would seem to me, from what everyone is saying 'bad' about using a K&N cone, that you won't be gaining much (if any), with a short ram. 'Still pulling 'hot' air from the engine compartment. :wtf:

So... I don't know. I will continue to use the K&N cone until I decide on a CAI. But yeah! K&N is proud of their Typhoon systems. But; I have a feeling; it's a real quality piece. Plus; Spool is going to be marketing an intake. Let's see what happens there.

And, of course; let's continue to enjoy my signature in good health. Damn it! Let's all fight Prostate Cancer together! (gun) (chair) (gun)

Yes folks! Greg's new 'smaller' - more workplace friendly 'kissing girls' signature. Accept no substitute!

There is not a huge difference between a short ram and cold air in terms of HP gains... +/- 2hp TOPS... no one would be able to tell that...
And while ou are driving there is not hot air going into your car with the short ram... there is enough turbulence under there.... if you have a short ram, feel te pipe when you stop.... but if you stop for a long time then yes it will get warmer since there is not air circulation.

I myself just use a drop in filter now since the intakes ( i had both - ractive and injen) were just hurting my mielage to the point where i didnt see the need for them.... a drop in filter still gave me the quick throttle that i liked... i could care less about sound, and NO i didnt feel a hp or acceleration difference, but thats for a dyno to decide.....

hey Zio..do you know the part number for that drop in filter?

Oh yeah I think I have one at home (San Jose), I think I remember getting one for my P5, and I sold the car with an aftermarket intake...hmm hopefully I still have the stock airbox.....

*huh* ANYONE SAY TYPHOON ?!?!?

sup all, i was the MSP that prototyped K&N Typhoon CAI.
now, they didnt let me take the dyno sheets home, but i looked at them...............and let me tell you..........WOW.

cant tell you exactly though cause i cant till it's in the press, but it was a huge differance..........more than twice than what Injen gets.

Now some of u will be like WTF, BS.........let me tell you, i dont give a damn.......i dont work for K&N so i dont care.

i'll have dynos in few weeks.

Oh, and one more thing..............they Typhoon kit will have two different ways of induction:
Short Ram - for those who are afraid of hydrolock.
Cold Air - for us in Cali :)

it will be more expencive than Injen..........dont know by how much.

lates.

I looked on the K&N authorized dealers list and on of the sites were selling the typhoon for like $400! (I forgot what kinda car it was for) Now, I don't know if that is the going price for them on all cars, but that's pretty expensive. But if its woth getting, I'm down for one.
