Rusty Hatch Emblems

Hell, I was out trying to clean months worth of crud off of the wife's car the other day and I noticed that the emblems on the hatch of the car were rusty and pitted!! It pissed me off that she had not cleaned the car better during the winter, but I have yet to see emblems on a car rust that fast. Has anybody else had this happen to theirs? Have some of you in those salty areas even checked your cars?? I am wondering if mazda is gonna give me and shiznit about replacing these? Hell, it only took 4+ months to get them to replace the steering wheel. I feel a war coming on and I am not talking about Iraq!!

I've noticed the same thing. I'm gonna go have em replace it. Shouldn't argue that much, the part can't cost that much, I don't see why they would object to replacing it.

Windshield washer fluid

The reason why the rear emblems go so quickly is because of the antifeeze fluid from the rear washer coroding it away.
Alteast thats my only explaination, cause there has to be one.

I think it's just Inferior coating on the emblems, they couldn't stand up to all the salt, etc.

im with kyredp5, i think its bad coating, just like bad paint. it hasnt happened to me, but then again i havent checked

5 months...

and they look fine. Of course I hand wash the car ever couple of weeks in the garage to get the salt off. If I had the problem, I would wait until the end of salt season and then have the dealer replace them. I don't see a problem with them not being covered under warranty. Remember: Attitude is as attitude does.

why do you have antifreeze coming out of your rear washer?

I think he was referring to the "anti-freeze" type of windshield washer fluid. Ya know that stuff that will helps break up ice and not freeze up in the bottle. Well, at least I hope that is what he means!!

the only antifreezing agent in washer fluid i know is alcohol and alcohol. well, actually methanol and isopropyl alcohol. the true antifreeze you put in your radiator is actually ethylene glycol. alcohol is a dissolving agent and a cleaning agent, not a corroding agent. i think the way the hatch was designed, it gets all of the road grime that gets kicked up when you drive. ever drive on a wet road? the back will look like it's been raining after a while. all that stuff from the road gets kicked back up onto the hatch of the car. in the snowy places, the road salt is a corrosive, so when you drive, all that salt water gets kicked back up and hence, corrosion. try CLR. it should work to get the rust out. don't know about the pits though. the salt must have eaten through the plastic or something.

(scratch) I am in south florida, i have no idea what you guys put in there. we can run water in the radiator here for 350 days a year :D
All I can say is that I feel sorry for all the things you guys subject your cars to during the winter (shocked)
