Removing Stereo Caused Big Problems - Help!

Hi

I have a UK Mazda 5 Sport 2.0d. Recently the factory fit in-dash 6 disc multi changed stopped working - whereby the radio continued to work but the cd refused to acknowledge that there were any discs in it (there were) and would not allow you to load or remove any cds.

Today I decided to take the unit out to see if I could see anything glaring wrong with the cd mechanism. I removed the unit and had a look - nothing looked stuck or out of place so I reconnected it - this is where the problem started. After I reconnected all the plugs I turned the ignition on but the stereo refused to turn on - it's as if it has no power. Also now ever time you turn the ignition on:

- The air conditioning settings forget there last settings.
- The clock resets back to 13:00
- The speedo and other dials quickly spin right round to max and then resets back to 0. This never used to do this.

I'm worried what has happened - I didn't think removing the radio could have such an effect. I have tried disconnecting the battery but this has no effect.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm going to assume that European mazda wiring is similar to what we have in the states. Check your ROOM fuse and all other fuses for that matter. One may have blown during the radio removal. That would be where I'd start.

Hi Loosenut

Many thanks for replying so quickly - I went straight out and checked - you were spot on with your suggestion, the ROOM fuse had blown. I've replaced it and things are now behaving as they should. Thanks again! :)

Now I've just to sort out my cd changer - would you or any one else know if there was a way of resetting a Sanyo CD89 66 ARX multichanger - at the moment it has 6 discs in it but the screen simply says 'No disc' when you try to use the cd player.

Mine did that. About 2 mos later, it read a disc. I removed them all immediately, and have left it empty ever since. G/L not having to replace any of your CD inventory. FWIW, if you decide to push your luck later down the road, just use burned copies of your fav discs, that way if they get locked in again, you can shrug it off.
