Relocating CD player...

i originally had a double DIN unit from the factory. i took out the DDIN unit and replaced it with a single DIN pioneer mp740 (or something like that, cant remember the exact # off the top of my head). the thing i love about this CD player is the cool LCD display. i currently have a 6.4" color LCD with touchscreen that i want to put in the car. i want to remove the pioneer and put the 6.4" LCD in the "double din hole". the problem with that is that it forces me to relocate the pioneer. do you guys have any ideas what i could do with it? i thought about hacking out the cig tray and lighter area, and putting in there, but i realized that will be kind of hard, seeing as how that area is attached to the rest of the dash.
i thought about putting it on top of those 2 middle vents and creating some kind of scoop to blend it into the dash, but i realized that position is a little too high for my liking.

i really dont want to just put it under a seat or something :(
id also like to avoid cutting the dash up or anything like that. what can i dooooo?

I've seen someone mount a CD/reciever in the area above the glovebox, below the airbag. Although that would go against what your trying NOT to do...cutting ect. I must admit, though, it looked nice.

You might consider trying to rig your glovebox and mount it there- that is if the display isn't all that important.

the unit is too long to fit into the glove box. and besides, the controller boards for the LCD are going in there.

hrm... :(

Sell it and get a CD changer otherwise your in for some long nights doing custom work.

im not doing the custom work myself, and visually the shifter might be in the way, of course i dont know since i dont have my fuggin msp yet BUT I have also been making stereo plans which include a LCD in the double din space and was hoping that I would be able to fit a double din in between the cupholders and the bottom of the center console. taking up the space where the ash tray and lighter are now.....I would put my HU and some gauges there if it would fit.

I have thought long and hard about it, and this is the only real solution I have liked.....if double din doesnt fit down there for gauges and HU ill probably put HU there and gauges somewhere else....

slug, basically thats like my plan. it is hard enough to try to fit a single din unit in that area, so i dunno if a double will squeeze there.

when im talking about pioneer, the same applies for the kenwood that comes with the MSP, since i am actually going to be putting this in my msp. id really hate to get rid of that kenwood...

back to the uber hardcore drawing board lol

Can these decks possibly be mounted vertically. Think about mounting it in the armrest if it can. Might take a little work but not too much.

last year at carlisle, i saw a mp3 with the stock radio down where the ashtray and lighter were supposed to be. you could do that.

Create a mounting box and attach it to the roof of the car and just stretch the factory appolstry around it and done.

i thought about the roof idea. the jury is still out on it, the thought has merit though.

as for mounting it in the armrest that would be a nice place, ppl just wouldnt be able to see my purdy dolphins swimmin around...

:)
