Questions of engine oil

Hi all,

I wonder which brand and which model of engine oil do you guys use for your P5?

The guy in the dealer told me to use 5W30, is it the correct model?

and what is the difference between 5W30 and 10W30??

In my ES, which has the same motor as the P5, I run 5w30. 10w30 is a little thicker oil, which is better for extremely hot temperatures or if you run your engine hard all the time. It will not flow as well as 5w30 if you have cold winters.

I use Mobil1 5W-30 for the first 30 to 40 thousand miles and then step up to 10W-30 for the rest of the time I own the car (usually somewhere beyond 100,000 miles). I will probably switch the P5 over to Mobil1 at 10,000 or so. Jim

I use 10W30. The difference in cold pour temps between 10 and 5 is well below the normal temps we experience in Indiana, so 10 is just fine for me. Also, I cruise at very high speeds on the highway (I did DC to Indianapolis, 600+ miles, in 8hrs 15min.) so my revs stay up there for a while.

Oh yeah, Mobil1.

In the oil test oft quoted on this site (I started a thread with the link like 9 months ago, you can find me), AMSOIL, Golden whateverthehell ( I can never remember the name, my dad uses it in his Bimmer bike), and Mobil 1 were the three top rated for viscosity, dry run life, and ash and carbon content.

Oh, and PureOne/Motorcraft, Mobil1 (overpriced like a motherf***er), and damn I cant remember the last one were the three "best" filters according to a gentleman who posted his personal study of oil filter elements and valves.

Dammit, I couldnt find the oil study. Search google....

They get to use some crazy oil in Europe.
I can't remember the word, but it's made 100% of the stuff that's in Mobil1 (starts with a "P") and it NEVER has to be changed. Just filter changes and top-ups.
We can't get it in North America because of import restrictions, or something like that.
Oh yeah, it's also REALLY expensive.

Never heard of that. GOt a link or something I can see?
