Over the weekend I had some interesting things come up. We had a mazda meet out here for all the Phoenix Metro Protege owners. There we met up with the owner of RM motorsports and I was able to see first hand their new CAI for the protge. It is awesome!
We got into somewhat of a debate on whether or not a CAI would benefit a turbo car. He said it would, while me and my friend didn't think it would. We think that since the air comming in get so hot from the turbo that it doesn't really matter what temperature it is by the time it gets to the IC- Unless of course it's a 50-100 temp difference.
That night Jason at RM gave me some of their flexible hose that they use for their CAI. Yesterday I replaced my ghetto hose with some of the stuff they used, and since I had so much extra I thought it would be fun to play around with it. I ended up putting my K&N filter on the end of the extra hose and stuck it down in my wheel fender (where the Injen CAI's go). I spoke to Jason and through his testing in the summer he found over a 50 degree difference from the area I originally had my filter, to where it was now.
I've driven my car quite a bit since yesterday and it has seemed to have helped a bit. Not initially, but after the car has been running for a while and heat builds up in the engine and engine bay area, it seems to still pull hard- where it used to decrease in performance.
Any thoughts on this?
