Question about reading on the boost gauge.

After starting the car what should read on the boost gauge. Is it normal to show 20 on the vac side or resting at 0. If not resting at 0, does that mean I have a leak? Also if I don't have the car in gear I still will go into boost won't I? Thanks

At idle your boost gauge should be at 20 vac.
If the car is not in gear you will not have load and you will not get into boost.

Yep, remember that it is the flow of exhuast that powers the turbine. If you are not in gear, the flow is not enought to hit boost.

Thanks Fellas

I was worrying about this all night wondering where could the leak be...(scratch)
One more thing left till ma debut....

Deepcover6, did u do the install of the turbo yourself? if so how long did it take you? do you have any pics?

Yes, I did the install myself paul. The install is pretty easy except if you don't have that many tools handy or don't know what to put first inorder for it not to interfere with the next item. It will take you well over a week. This was my first time ever working with a turbo, so I was learning as I pieced it together. There were some minor setbacks ;). But the spool man himself helped me out. I am sure his girlfriend enjoyed the whole ordeal. She just loved me calling at 1am in the morning to ask for a solution :D. Any how it is quite satisfying to get it done finally and start the car. Wheeeeerrrrrr......psssoooon(Greddy) is guaranteed to make it worth the while.

On another subject I am encountering some misfires. Got any idea what is going on?? Spoolin?? Also my BOV when at idle leaks some air from the outlet. Is that normal...? I put my hand on the outlet and the engine calms down otherwise shakes like a crack addict. What do I tighten ? Or loosen? To fix this. Will have some pics up soon. Waiting on the spring and exhaust work, aiming for this weekend.

What if he revs it in neutral?

There is not enough exhaust energy at nuetral to actually produce boost, you need more load like actually being in a gear driving. However you can make BOV sounds at idle revving, just not all BOV's do this.

Yes I stated that this kit would take 4-6 hours to install by an experienced mechanic that has some expereince with turbocharhing. We did the prototype in 3 hours:eek:
One can always tell you that if you do not have the experience or tools it is much more difficult to intsall and will take a bit longer. Then the tuning phase takes even longer.....but when its all done its worth it:D

Yeah we already talked about this per our telephone conversation today. The "misfires" are actually backfires. When you get your exhaust setup you will hear this with less frequency. As for the car shutting off when comming to a stop. I dont think its the BOV, try tightning it just in case and see how it affects things. Then go over everything again (all possible leaks on charge pipe and vacum lines) I know this a pain in the ass but just the smallest leak will cause a slooping idle that can shut the car off when comming to a complete stop.

Deep, also if the wastegate spring comes in tommorow I will fedex it to you asap;)

I could, now knowing what I am doing, install the turbo in a day.

i plan on taking off work fri and then working through the weekend. im sure if i put some long nights in it shouldn't be a problem getting it done. i have lots of tools and im very mechanical. after im done the install do i drive directly to the exhaust shop with an open down pipe?? I think i remember reading b4 that ur kit doesnt bolt on to our stock exhaust. so if i finish on a sunday i will have to wait untill monday to get the exhaust hooked up?
GO EAGLES!! (just won a huge game!!)

The more mechanical knowledge and ability you have the better. Yes you can drive to the exhaust shop with an open downpipe, it will not hurt anything. If the wallet permits you can even get your exhaust shop to go ahead and make a 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust setup for you.

Just make sure the heat from the downpipe is directed away from anything that could get heat damage!!!

The way the downpipe is positioned that should not be a problem
