Potential of MSP

Turbo guys, what is the tuning potential of the MSP. Will it be easy to get good gains from larger intercooler, free-flow exhaust etc. I know a little about turbos from my work ( we sell diesel engines). Is it possible to crank the boost on the stock turbo etc.

I am going to buy a new car and I have to lower my sights as too what want to buy (originally was going to buy a G35 sedan).

Will probably buy WRX, or MSP.

Thanks

Bryan

MSP is a good starting point, if you were going to buy a G35 i would definately look into the MSP. the most beneficial things to consider when making power is fuel and air mixture. i would definately upgrade downpipe and exhaust to at least 2.5 inch diameter all the way. also since car is intercooled get the piping extended and run a bigger front mount intercooler lower in the grill like most of the kits out there. since the car is turbocharged the ecu should be already upgraded from factory to see load so raising the boost to 8-10 psi should not be a problem. you might need to upgrade the fuel pump. the stock turbo t25 i believe is good for 200+ hp to the wheels i know for a fact cause my friend has same turbo on sr20de 200sx nissan pushing 220whp and 240lbs torque so turbo is small but effective. if you have anymore questions just ask. with these upgrades 200whp and 205-210lbs torque should be realized and with the lsd should net you 13 second 1/4 mile times easy with a good launch.

The stock ECU will cut fuel at 10 psi to protect the engine.

A good upgrade would be steel intercooler piping. The press cars were equipped like this and they made more power than the production plastic pipes (required for crash tests). The IC is not well designed on that kit so it would be worthwhile to modify it.

No, not at all. We have a complete replacement setup for the turbo system, though :)

I think it's so funny when people say "oh, I was gonna buy this" when their "this" is a $40,000 car. Then they resort to a $20,000 car. If you could afford the $40,000 car, why would you go down to a $20,000 car. That just doesn't make sense. Oh, maybe it's because you thought we'd be impressed if you lied and said you were trying to buy a car that was way out of your reach.

Hmmm, could it be *GASP* that the $20,000 offers more bang for the buck, and is more fun to drive...

I know a $40,000 car is supposed to be awesome, but not all of them are.

Could it be that my wife is pregnant with kiddie on the way
Could it be that my company sales were not as good as we forecasted
Could it be that we just spent 235K on a house when we originally intended to spend 200.

Dont you think it is funny when people jump to stupid conclusions about people they know nothing about.

By the some of us get vehicle payments subsidised by our employers.

Skip the MSP and go straight to the nearest Subaru dealer.

Agreed you can do so much with those cars. I am in love with the all wheel drive, they offer an awsome launch from the line.(bowdown)

If you want serious performance and aftermarket support, don't waste your time on the MSP. Don't get me wrong, the car is now slouch, but I can think os 2 other cars I'd rather have.......1-WRX, 2-350Z. Both will beat the MSP to smitherines fresh out of the box and both will continue to pound an MSP into submission after being modded a bit.

AHAHAHAH! Enough with the WRX..lol:mad:...does it say iclub in the top left corner?

Have you guys ever felt very strongly towards a certain car....don't you think its possible to love a car regardless of price or speed potential?

I agree with StuttersC, just because a car is in the 40k range does not make it better or faster or whatever. You have many types of cars within each price range and they should not be directly compared.

Just choose whats right for YOU!

look all you people out there with the subarus talk and the 350z talk. cars are are nice dont get me wrong but a well put together msp or any mp3 turbo will out do those cars. first all you guys are comparing is straight line performance. sure you mod the hell out of a suby or 350z and it will probably beat it down the quater mile but what are we talking here, awd, rwd, fwd. three different platforms. now you take that to the open road and start from a roll and there will be different endings to the usual conclusions of these races. subys make good power down low but their top end isnt that great. 350z has rwd advantage but you take that away when you start from a roll, so that heavy boat now loses its advantage. the msp with a well tuned and efficiently running turbo kit will pull hard on any of these just due to the fact that proteges make their peak torque down low where it counts, so if your in fifth and drop to fourth your at about 3000 area depending on current speed and voila pull away from other vehicle, stop knocking the msp or any well put togehter protege turbo.

Agreed..........but a heavily modded protege (such as mine) vs a heavily modded 350Z or WRX will loose. I can get smoked by a full modded WRX of the line, rolling, on the highway....and any which way you put it. Yes the Protege has the ability to be a 10 sec car but at what costs? 20 grand?.....thats ridiculous money for a car that will have zero reliabilty.

Just stating the facts

Now compare a lightly modded or stock WRX vs a heavily modded Pro and obviously the Pro will win. But we have to compare apples with apples here

Apples to apples?!? Then stop comparing the MSP to cars that start out $5-$6 grand more from the get go...

Sure you can mod the crap out a Scooby and it'll pounce the MSP, but you'll also be spending twice as much as it would cost to get the damn MSP in the first place.

Scooby is good for where it is at, the 350Z is just a sad attempt by Nissan to try to get into the sports car market again.

The MSP stock or even lightly modded will be a far better car than the Scooby or 350Z, and still cost less...Flat out, that is my opinion.

Ok I got you a better car for about 2,000 less than the MSP. How about the Dodge Neon SRT-4 that car will spank the MSP, and its comparing apples to apples. Thats not a opinion thats fact. The SRT-4 (owned) the MSP
