Hi everyone,
Im a newbie to the forum.
Ive tried looking through previous post for answers, but theres just so much and I couldnt arrive at a consensus.
Hopefully someone can help me out.

I have a 2000 Protg LX (1.6 liter) with around 141k miles

4 questions

1) With gas prices as they are, Id like to help my veh breath a little better. Can anyone point me to an inexpensive cold air intake (CAI). When I say inexpensive Im thinking $100 or less. Also, note that Im requesting a CAI and not a SRI (short ram intake). Pretty much Im looking for something to just bolt on. Now, Ive read many posts in this forum about hesitation, hose diameter, MAF sensors, etc. I dont want my veh to hesitate. I have a 1.6L engine so Im assuming the hose diameter needs to be 2.25 inches. I do wish to keep my MAF and I would like for the CAI to have space for it. I saw a lot of conversations about weapon this or that, or corksport, or simotra (sp?), but when I investigated those they all seem to be for 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines Did I mention that I have a 1.6 (emphasis). Also, those seemed too expensive. Man, this was so much easier and cheaper on my Civic. Any help would be much appreciated.

2) In the same line of thinking as above, can anyone help with a cat back exhaust, perhaps even header back? Again $ is an issue (in the $100 range). It doesnt need to be showy or loud. Im looking more for something that will help the veh exhale and thus save gas and hopefully add a few horses here and there. Im earth friendly, so straight piping my cat is not going to happen.

3) So, Ive also got 2 codes my veh keeps throwing (P0106 map circuit high/low and P0401 EGR insufficient flow). I took apart my EGR valve. It was stuck. I thoroughly cleaned it and lubed it so that it opens and closes almost effortlessly. After re-installing the EGR and resetting the codes, they both came back in about 300 miles. Any suggestions? I just got my Illinois air check slip in the mail too (just my luck). I automatically fail if I have any codes.

4) I saw a lot of posts regarding cleaning the IACV. There were a many different methods thrown out there. I ask because ,especially in the winter, my veh idles high (2500 rpm) for a long time on start up before settling down to normal. I think it would be good if I clean out the IACV system. From all the things listed in other posts, any insights as to this is the best way?

thanks

that sucks you live in a communist state that will make your car not have codes in order to pass, what a bunch of crap. for starters the codes are common amongst our vehicles. I have the same egr code, i just drive it anyway. I am getting 400 miles or more a tank with my 1.6 with all original s***, and 211,000 miles. As far as the intake goes I think that it is a waste of money, I would rather by 2 tanks of gas then spend my money on that, my car is going to be slow as s*** no matter what I do. In fact my 1.6 mazda is one of the slowest vehicles I have ever owned, but the fact that it saves me a ton of money on gas makes me like it more than any other vehicle i have ever owned. Oh, and sorry i dont really know where you can get the cold air intake since they don't interest me all that much.

if you go to advanced they have spectre intakes (spectreperformance.com), that's what i plan on doing. as for the exhaust, i'd say puul off the stock manifold, port and polish it.
