Does anyone have or know of Pillar Guage pods for our cars? The interior plastic is a greyish color. I don't really want my boost guage on my steering column, I don't know maybe I'm goofed

Any info would be great. Number of pods doesn't matter. I at least need one, and could fill the others with various guages.

inimical was working on this, he hooked us up withthe sttering wheel gauge holer( if u need a link, i can get it...0, but im sure they'll be "for sale" very soon!

Yeah, I'm not down with the whole steering wheel pod craze either. I want them on the pillar. 3 guauges should do.

use a prelude 97-00 dual pod.. or any triple pod from a car with a bigger pillar.
mould it in.
i got hte lud 97-00 in my pillar...... well soon it will be done..... my bud has his all finished in his mp3

On comes with the BEGI kit for the boost guage

Well, that's just a mount. I don't want it to look chincey, so I'm looking for actual guage pods that "could" end up replacing the entire left pillar. They're everywhere for honda's but it's challenging to find stuff like that for protege's, for now at least. :D

With some fiberglass, bondo and paint you can make one. I am still determining where I am going to mount mine. I don't want passers by to know I have boost.

hehehe, me either.

That would be an interesting route to go. I'm still weighing my options. I don't have a whole lot of money to throw at it-so we'll have to see.

Is there a projected hologram boost guage yet? :wtf:

hehe

DId you get the directions for the install of the BEGI kit yet if so are you able to fax them to me. I am getting impatient and realy want to know if I am going to kill my car. being that I am only a mobile audio installer and have never done any mechanical work.

Call BEGI and ask for Stephanie. She'll fax them over to you in a heartbeat. I got mine a few weeeks ago.

I'd totally fax them to you but it's like 35 pages!!:p
My boss would have my ass.

how bad does the procedure look. by the way I think I might be ablee to rig up something under the cup holders to hold the guages, kind of don't want to loose them though.

Actually, that little CD "pocket" above the cup holders is PERFECT for a two-gauge pod. just tilt them up, you can see them clearly, and no one else will know you have them.

I saw that too but I don't want to totaly fabricat that area since its not easily removable like the cup holders. I will probably just cut them into the pocket under the radio that came with the MP3 that way it has a cover. I was thinking of doing some neon lighting in their too.

That area is perfect!

I think I'll throw a couple of guages in there and fabricate a small mount to hold them still.

I want to be a total sleeper, and hunky guege pods all over the interior kind of cheapens the look (IMO). :D

They dont fit just going in so I am probably going to make a rear mount setup for my guages but I realy want to do some blue colored plexiglass with back lighting.

Good idea, the p5 with stock radio has a "blank" space below the face, perfect for some unassuming gauges. I too love the "sleeper" look, and wouldnt want my gauges to be visible. Another cool looking place that's actually pretty inconspcuous that I've seen is the panel where the side RV mirror is (someone already makes a single pod replacement for that, totally cool), or replacing the vinyl upper panel on the door (below and behind the RVmirror panel) with a fabricated two- or three gauge pod. If you recess and slant the gauges, and put a lip over the top (like the lip over our stock gauges), they're all but invisible to the outsider. The MOST inconspicuous, but less accessible place, is the visor area above the head. Taking your eyes that far off the road can be dangerous, but the gauges are invisible. a cop wont even see them when he looks into your car.

We're all coming up with good areas.

I am going to try and fabricate a 2 guage setup under the CD deck, and still keep it maskable (with the flip face). If I'm able to do it successfully I'll let everyone know how I did it, hehe.

Ok well from time to time you are going to hear me talk about my VW Corrado VR6( I loved that car) anyway it was totally custom and here was my solution in the car for hidden gauges since no pillar was produced for the car. Ok so here is the setup. Remove the glovebox. Take a piece of MDF and cut to shape of glovebox opening and cut some holes in it ( I had 3 in a straight line underneath my CD Changer) then cover it with carpet to match the interior(speaker box carpet) then get Autometer angle rings for the guages(they are small plastic circles that you can twist and adjust the viewing angle of the guage so that they were facing toward the driver seat at about a 30 degree angle) Then I took 2 pieces of scrap and screwed them in 1/4" down from the top so that when the MDF and carpet sat on top of them it would sit flush. Then I screwed the top board to the supports to keep it secure. All I did for the wires was drill a small hole in the bottom of the glove box and just put a rubber grommet in the hole to run the wires through. Then I put the glove box back in the car and ran all the wires and hooked up the guages. Not sure if this next step is possible for a p5 or not! I attached small cabinet door catches on the sides of the glovebox so that I didn't have to have it all the way open. the catches help it open just enough to see the guages. If i wanted to use my cd changer I just pushed on the catches and the glove box opened all the way. P.S I did change my set up once the pillar was made but I just moved the guages there and then put more guages back in the glove box to fill the empty holes. Hope this helps somebody. Oh and yes I had more gueages than I could keep track of in that car. 2 in a factory cluster in front of shifter, 3 in the glovebox and 2 on the pod. One factor that may affect this was that I was running a supercharger and so it was not as important for me to watch my boost guage. those using turbos may choose to mount the boost guage somewhere else.

Another option is Autometers new carbon fiber gauge cups. I just saw some in person the other day and they are SSSSAAAAAWWWWWWWEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT. Not very sleeper but very trick. Thinking of doing my guages in them in my P5.

BTW I am looking for pics of my setup in the VW but I didn't have a digital camera then and so I have to find the actual roll of film.

Hell yes, do that..it beats all my ideas, and would be the most sleeper of all!
