P5 key code tag

found this little numbered tag in plastic wrap in my owner's manual package. it's a little piece of metal with some number on it, and a little note says I'm supposed bring this if I make copies of keys.

my dealer told me my car keys aren't codeded so why it's in there? what's it for? Can I just make copies of the key without the code and it would work?

okay that little tag from how i understand it iss if you want to order the keys from mazda, i believe you can get a key made at walmart or wherever without that code, that code is so that you dont have to send a key into mazda to have it coppied.

yeah Mazda keys don't have security chips in them like some of the luxury cars, so you can take it to any hardware store to make copies.

it cost me $1.50 to have one made at Home Depot :)

If you lose all your keys, you can get a new set using the number imprinted on that metal tag.

i have one i got at the hardware store, handy when my parents "try" to take my keys away
