Oil pan plug backing itself loose?

We recently relocated to Europe and my employer was nice enough to ship our beloved 2012 Mazda-5. Rather than trust an overpriced German mechanic, I changed the oil myself. 5 quarts of 0W20 (full synthetic) and a filter put me back almost $45 and I went to the army base to use the lift at the Landstuhl Hobby Shop. When I reached under the car to drain the oil the PLUG WAS BARELY FINGER TIGHT, and I had lost some oil! Not enough to light the idiot light. There wasn't a washer or a gasket on the plug (I'm not sure if there's supposed to be) and I made sure it was tight when I was finished.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?

Yes, there should be a washer. It’s possible that the washer fell out in the process of securing the plug hence it came loose from jarring bumps. The washer helps apply friction to keep the drain bolt steady.

You should consider this http://www.fumotousa.com/ (EDIT: get the N series with the nipple extension). Never have to worry about washers or the need for a tool to drain your oil. Slip on a 3/8" ID hose and you can drain the oil (can do while hot b/c hot oil is lighter and flows better) directly into your disposable container.
