Here is a mazda 6 knob fit in my MP3. You got to do some work to make it fit but i Shortened it by 3 inches st least. Turns out real nice. I will get more pics if anyone is interested.

that looks like one of those "type-r" knobs found online and throughout ebay for hondas

+1 That's no Mazda6 knob I've seen...

Well now you have...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAZDA-3-6-MX6-626-BILLET-TITANIUM-SHIFT-KNOB-5-SPEED_W0QQitemZ360139594035QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090317?IMSfp=TL090317203004r36081

Here is one like the one i got but on ebay and a different color. I got the brushed gunmetal one. Point of the story tho any Mazda 6 or 3 knob will fit if you tap and die it out right. They are a 10 mm thread and i think ours stock was 8mm. Do not qoute me. LOL.

Again, this is not a Mazda6 shift knob, it's merely one that fits the M12x1.5 thread pattern. In the link you posted is explicitely says "MAZDA 3 6 MX6 626"meaning it is a universal knob. What you have is a Type R replica. Sorry to argue semantics but when people say Mazda3 or Mazda6 shift knob, I think of stock knobs. For example, I have a stock '07+ Mazda3 shiftknob.

We can argue all you want. LOL. Dose it fit the mazda 6 yes. Ok then I never said it was stock knob off the 6. But it is made to fit it? It is the same thread so yes 6 and 3's knobs can fit ours. That was the question i answered. I was just trying to expand the thread. Not on this lock down of oh what knob is this game. Not all people think of stock knobs right away. I just was trying to expand the options for people and maybe spark a few ideas.

I can't wait to get my turbo project finished. I think I want to get a new shift knob and boot. I actually like the look of this "type-r" ebay knob. It's basically what I have now, but very plain. My only problem is the original owner messed the threading up on the shift knob so i don't know if i should use a "tap and die" set on it and make threading or get a new short shifter.

Is it a stock shifter? If you look there should be 2 parts before the bolck to stop the knob, a skinny threaded peice at the top and a thicker part at the bottom that is not threaded. You got two options. You can cut that top peice off and tap the bottom for this knob like i did or if that is messed up you can cut it all off at the block anddrill it out into the shifter and tap it out and put a stud in there. Just ideas i have already done.

Here i added a picture hopefully that helps.

I have a neuspeed short shifter. I've never seen one yet for the protege FS, but the original owner said that's what it is. I like it though. It's really short.

Run your knob on a thread guage to see what the thread is (lowe's has them in the bolt isle). Then you can see what thread you need for you shifter. The shiter is easier to modify with because it is easy to mees up the knob where you can see it. Atleast that was my thinking. I like that knob it has some weight to it and grips nice and color matched out interior perfectly.

Always an option for those who do not have a thread index at their disposal. LOL. I did that back in the day. It works and i always seem to be there anyways.
