Now at 86K, what to do?

So my '09 just turned over 86K and I'm wondering what I need to do maintance wise. Since the inital purchase in 2011 w/ 45K miles, I've:

  • Dropped and filled the AT fluid three times
    Replaced rear shocks
    New brakes
    Two in cabin filter changes
    Two air filter changes
    New plugs this past Feb
    One set of tires
    Oil changes every 3-4K miles
    Four tire rotations
    Cleaned the MAF sensor
    Cleaned the TB
Replaced the left side motor mount
    New battery

So what's next? I need to look at the other motor mounts, I'm sure they will need to be replaced. So far all the sway bar bushings, etc. have held up remarkably well. I will do one more AT drain and fill with the next oil change and do that every 10K miles.

How about coolant? Brake fluid? They look good, but I'm thinking of changing that before it hits 90K.

I believe brake fluid should be done at least every 4 years, so you are at that time, usually factory coolant is good for 5 years/120k km but you can also have it tested to see if it meets requirements where you drive. Also check power steering fluid, I can't recall the frequency and usually change it at the same time as brake fluid.

A MAZDA OWNER AFTER MY HEART!! (yippy) Sounds like you are doing good!

My first thoughts are coolant, a new radiator cap, power steering and brake fluid exchange.

Also a few minutes lubing all the hinges, door detents, sliding door rollers, hood latch, tailgate latch, and cleaning the stainless rods on the tailgate lift supports. As well as lubing the window rubber up/down channels with some dry-silicone.

Front struts, and alignment might be the next $$ thing to do, but I would wait until tire replacement time and do all at once.

Good stuff thanks! I know the PO had the power steering recall done, so the fluid was pretty new when I got it. But that is an easy fluid to replace. I only wish the exterior was holding up. The front is sand blasted and I scraped the front left bumper and side skirt navigating a tight parking lot with tall curbs. Along with a few door dings because the wife does not care where she parks. Other than that, she runs like new!

You are on a great maintenace track. Treat the car good and she (or he) will return the favor. The only thing I'd add is spend a little time to give it a good cleaner wax followed by a sealant wax. Look for groupon type deal if you want to save time. Also, give the interior a deep clean and you'll also feel nicer sitting inside. Not only will it drive like new, it'll feel like it too :)

You are doing an awesome job. As far as I know and what I follow is brake fluid every 30k miles and coolant every 50-60k miles hope this helps!

I'd change coolant at 4 yrs/50K miles and after that every 2 yrs/ 24K miles esp. my car is used for shorter commutes with stop and go.

My manual says the coolant is good for 10 years/100k miles. Has anyone kept it for that long? It's suppose to be the new fangled long life stuff.

How about belts? Our Mazda5 is getting about that mileage. I was thinking about sparkplugs and sparkplug wires & belts? Any thoughts? What else to replace when I replace the belt? Water pump? Idler pulley? Or just wait until they go? I know on Hondas, it's good to replace the water pump when you do the timing belt, but Mazdas have a chain. I need to buy $100 of stuff to get free shipping, so trying to figure out what to buy besides swaybar bushings.
