none-deep cycle battery doesn't like to be drained over time right?

tried those Solar panel charger that plug into cigarette lighter slot?

does it work as a battery maintainer?

Lol, you have never seen a car parked in a driveway for longer than three days or a week?

There is no need for anything like that unless there is a short in the system that drains the cell or unless the cell is old and you dont trust it...

Either way, you should fix those problems if they exist.

oh i am just getting told that deep cycle battery could sit all winter long without damaging the battery even with a completed discharge.

but regular battery doesnt like to been drained more than 60-80%, it would shorten the battery life

so i just wonder if i should get something to maintain the battery level or not.

since Installshield2 said his red top sits 3months in garage during the winter time and still doing ok for 10years

i am gonna ignore battery life thingy then =,=|||

Why wouldn't you just charge it, then disconnect the positive

just checked my msp battery, sitting for roughly 3 weeks without running voltage dropped to 6v gonna charge with 2 amps and see if i can bring it back to 12v+

i think the alarm system eats the battery pretty fast since the battery size is only like 32-36AH doesnt last very long

yeah...you're fine...I should've stated, i do disconnect it when it sits for that long...but only because the alarm and stereo (just the clock) will slowly drain it over that long.

it mostly depends on the battery...i'm not getting into specifics on all the different types of car batteries, but a 'general purpose auto battery' will slowly 'weld' itself together internally over time (this is where people are telling you a mostly drained or dead battery will cause a shorter life)...and will also seep hydrogen, which is flammable, so there is some danger when jumping a dead battery...but that is not going to happen until its mostly drained, and a battery disconnected completely...with no corrosion on the pins...will hold its charge for years...

Mine has sat for 4 months of freezing winters, though...plugged in with the alarm on...with an optima red-top...and 'started'...it didn't crank it over like a beast, but it started...since then i just disconnected it for winter months that i knew it wouldn't be used...

so forget the tenders...thats for a car with a short somewhere that is depleting the battery when parked, and doesn't fix anything...just prevents the battery from dying. I have to do that with my Porsche 928...Sourcing the parts to fix that, and actually find the short, is so annoying i just do that for when its parked for a few days. I'd say don't do anything unless the protege is going to be parked for more than 6 weeks for sure...otherwise its just overkill...
