need sub amp suggestions

Well, if any of that happens, definately let me know as I will be interested.

No back to the original discussion. Well 2nd discussion anyway. Sorry we hijacked your thread with this discussion Orange Speed.

I have come across a little test that was done on the JBL 1200.1 and the results are shown in this pic:

As you can see, yes, the power output does drop with the power input, but still produces almost 1040W at 12V. Interestingly at its rated 4ohm output (600W) is actually over 680W! The S/N ratio is not that great though.

Also, here is an email that I sent to JBL and their highly technical:rolleyes: response:

If you are looking for an amp with great damping factor and high efficiency, I would strongly suggest you wait for our new Power Series Amps. These borrow technology form the car amp we co-developed with Crown.

Damping factor will be greater than 400
Efficiency will really be 80% no BS

I was wondering if some specifications are available for a couple of your amps. The amps in question are the 600.1 and the 1200.1. What is the damping factor, the efficiency a 1/3 power, and at what voltage are these amps rated at? I am doing a study to compare different amp brands and believe that your amps stack up well against the competitors, but need some proof to back it up.

Good find but, ah, look close it says max power output. Those aren't rms numbers.

Although for some funny reading check out the review of the kenwood 929 amp on carsound, they didn't much like it.

since RMS is usualy 2/3 then the 1200.1 would only be capable of around 500 watts rms at 12 volts. That can be easily bested by the JL 500/1 which is the same retail price.

Actually, if I am not mistaken, RMS is .707 x Max which in the case of the 1200.1 would be 735W. And sure, the 500/1 and the 1200.1 are the same retail, but you should look at actual prices!
That is all I have to offer right now as I am too drunk to think anymore

Mathmaticaly yes but when it comes t audio and manufacturers numbers its usualy much less. We haven't seen all the numbers on the JBL so we don't know about it yet.

To best see this get a crutchfield an scan down the rms at 4 ohm colum and the peak at 4 ohm colum. Just about every amps peak power is double its RMS. In fact in my quick scan of it all the amps peak was double the rms.

Cheers(drinks)
