This is what I have planned for my P5. I'm exchanging my eclipse headunit for a Kenwood Exelon KDC-X59
A set of Boston Pro 6 1/2" separates in the front powered by a JL Audio 300/2
Rears are remaining stock and powered by headunit.
1 JL Audio 12" W6v2, in a sealed enclosure (trying to save space), powered by a JL 500/1.
I was also planning on running a single fared cap on the 500/1 for my sub. Will I need one for my 300/2? Will my alternator/battery be ok with this particular setup?
I originally wanted to go with a single 12 w7, but to get that thing bumping it's best to run it off a 1000/1....and hence there is more of a possiblity I'll run into a problem pulling 1300watts as opposed to 800.
Lastly, does anyone know what JL's amps are rated. Are they class D amplifiers?

Any inherent problems with that setup? I'm hoping I can get along with stock in the back for rear fill. I'm trying to avoid buying the 300/4, because I've heard the Boston pros SCREAM with the 300/2.

Sounds Like a great setup. I am sure you will have '1st MP3 in NH's approval ;) with all the JL Audio you have in there. The 1 Farad cap should be sufficient, just make sure you use a good ground from both the battery to the chassis and for the amp. In my setup, currently running JBL 90x2 (rear) and JBL (600.1) fro the sub with a 1 Farad cap and I have no dimming whatsoever. I really think it is the ground as added a 1/0 gauge battery to chassis ground. I have yet to hook up my front amp (160x2) so I am not sure what that will throw into the mix. Hopefully the lights will still not dim.

Good luck with the system.

What kind of sub are you running?

Yeah in my last car I had 3 JL 12" W6 subs running on a Soundstream Reference 700sx amp with one farad cap and didn't encounter any problems. However I'll now be pulling 800watts, and I'm not sure the output of the alternator compared to my old car (Tiburon).

The JL 500/1 is capable of 733 watts as riders discovered on www.carsound.com witha reactive load. Reactive being the closest test to a real speaker. It can power a single 12W7.

Do the 300/2 for the Pros and run the rears off the deck, its a good SQ setup. You won't need a cap for the 300/2 although you may want 2 for the 500/1 since its not very efficeint and our stock alternator bites ass.

Check the review of the JL on carsound its a good read.

I have suspended my Judgement on JBL until we find a proper test just for you Rider.

So, MP3, with both the 500/1 and the 300/2 I will likely encounter headlight dimming etc? Will capacitors actually fix this...I know they are good when there is a quick, large draws.....other than capacitors, and upgrading the alternator...what else can be done to help the problem?

Tweeter sells a 15 Farad "cap" looks like an amp.....is this necissary?

Th alumapro 15 farad cap will definitly help dimming. It won't be completely neccisary to with just a 500/1 and a 300/2. If you were considering the 15 farad i think the 5 farad version would be sufficient and cost less. It about the same price as 2 normal style caps.

Headlight dimming is mostly just an anoying unless its realy bad. I still get it but thats to be expected. When my 1000/1 JL amp goes form basicly idle to all out power it would be very hard for anything to stablaize the voltage so my lights dim for a quick second before the alternator responds.

I went with a new alternator since I new I would be running stupid power levels. 1000/1, 300/4 and a 300/2. You are still in the relm of reasonable so an alternator swap and 15 farads is over kill.

Just run 4 or 1/0 power wire from the battery to the amps and upgrade the stock wiring to the alternator to the same. Also upgrade all the batteries grounds with the same guage.

Not sure I understand but You can buy all the audio products I mentioned at tweeter and we can do all of the install.

Only the alternator can't be done since it has to have all custom brackets welded. Plus we don't sell alternators altough I have a feeling we could get them.

By the way I have a fellow installer that has a set of BA Pros in his Suby WRX and they are powered by a 300/2. They rock!

He just bought my 4 8W3s and he loves them. They go nicely in a hatch bakc or wagon but they weren't that great i my trunk. He actualy spend most of satureday showing off the subs and box I built for them.

How are the set of Bostons that are above the pros- the ones that retail for $1000. I heard them in the store and the tweeter sounds alot smoother, less harsh.

I have only auditioned the 6" version of those speakers, by the way they are called Z6 or Z5 for the 5 1/4".

I liked them the best of our speakers on the sound boards but I haven't heard them in a car yet. One of our insstallers has a set of Pros in his suby and they are absolutely awsome.

i am signed up for the next line of tours at the Boston factory so I should have some more info after that but that may not be for a few months.
