MSP Newbie

Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Linder and Im from Missouri. I currently drive a '95 Camaro Z28 w/ quite a few mods (making 363 hp and 420tq), but I just recently found out about MSP's and I am currently hunting for one. Since I figure this is the best place to ask, I was wondering if there is anything in particular I should look for when I purchase mine, aside from the hesitation issues that I noticed some people have had trouble with. If anyone could help point me in the right direction Id appreciate it. Thanks

Ryan,

If you're a 1/4 mile guy - DON'T buy it.

If, on the other hand, you do any road racing or auto-x'ing, and can adjust to FWD, don't worry about the hesitation issue. A fix is rumored to be on the way from Mazda.

Again: KEEP YOUR Z if you're a drag/street racer. :)

I couldn't agree more. The MSP is a wonderful handler, but it's straight line performance leaves much to be desired.

If all goes well, I'll be taking delivery of my Titanium MSP tomorrow afternoon!

I agree. If your into 1/4 mile racing, I think that you already have the perfect car for it. If you want to go driving, buy the MSP.

Well to be quite honest, I was a quartermile guy, and I am in to straight line performance as well as fun in the twistys, but I have gotten out of the whole speed thing. Two of my very good friends died in a street racing accident in an FBody, and people around here just keep seem to be racing and crashing. Plus, the faster I go, the faster I want to go which means lots of $$$. Ive done every bolt on imaginable, but Ive just gotten sick of the super choppy ride and having cops pull me over just cuz Im a 20 year old in a Camaro. So to make a long story short(er), Ive gotten out of the drag racing and I think MSP's are kick ass cars inside and out, but I havent driven one yet. So ill ask again, anything I should look for, notorious problems, or stuff like that? Oh and by the way im from St. Louis

The stumble/hesitation issue is really the only notorious problem I seem to have. damn clunk between 3500~4500rpm, for some reason I didn't really notice when I first drove the car  ,but later I sure did. also make sure you get a NEW msp not one w/ like 50 miles on it, so you can raise her properly. Mine had 5 miles :D

A few people have had an IC hose crack, but I'm not sure if they were modding or what not. If you want to avoid cops get a Titanium Silver or a Black Mica.

Here's my titanium : http://www.msprotege.com/vbb230/showthread.php?threadid=27108

oh, and the stereo kicks ass :)

One other thing that seems to be a problem to watch for is the head unit for the stereo. Not everyone has problems with it, and those who do only have intermitant problems (usually)...but sometimes the unit just stops working and you have to reset it (not a big deal, but a pain in the ass to reset all the settings.)

At any point, good luck....also glad to see you getting away from street racing (sorry it took 2 friends for the change though).

This car handles the 1/4 miles quite well. I don't know what you guys are talking about. In stock trim, its just as good as anything else for the money, going in a straight line. I'm a 1/4 mile guy, and this car can be a ******* beast.
