MSP gauge cluster problem

I dont want this to be a dumb question but, the cluster in my msp is very dull, so dull that i can barely see it at night. Yet if i start to drive it brightens up a little bit, but when it idles it dimes out again. Im thinking its the alternater, and hoping it doesnt have anything to do with the bulbs. Oh this goes the same for all the climate control lights, but not the headunit. whats the problem?

I'm assuming you have the dash light dimmer turned all the way up?

Yea test your battery first then alternator if it is alternator replace both!!!!

Quick question, is it dull all the way across, or dull in part of the cluster? after pulling my dash out to install the DaveB rings, my guage was dull on the sides but bright in the middle. I fixed it like any teenager "fixes" a computer. I smacked the large "hump" above the gauges and the lights came back on!

if they dim and brighten in concert with engine speed, i would guess alternator. if the alternator is fine, check the grounding wires that lead away from the cluster to make sure they are grounding correctly.

Replace the bulbs. That makes a huge difference.
