MSP brake compatibility

I know you can put mazda6 and mx6 brakes on the protege chassis but how about brakes from a probe? I know the coilovers from protgs fit on probes. I'm trying to do a 5 lug conversion on my pro but here in WA can't come across a 5 lug pro to take it off of. Will the probe hubs work front and back?

A few years ago i ordered the kit from protege garage that has 2000-2002 Mazda 626 V6 front brake calipers, and MSP rear calipers (which are FD RX7 rear brake calipers iirc)

I owned a 93 Probe GT before my protege 5...and having done countless brake repairs on both cars, i'm pretty certain the V6 2nd gen probes have the same front brakes as the 626 V6's of that generation (as those are what are on my car right now)...I'm positive pads from a 93 probe GT fit the 00-02 626 calipers, as i had a set laying around left over from the old car...fit and seated perfectly.

Hubs though...that i'm not sure about. My 626 calipers didn't come with brackets, they mounted on the Protege 5 brackets...the probes/626's could have had a different knuckle (and therefore a different hub pressed in as well) than that of the protege...but just happened to line up with the protege 5 brackets anyway, if that makes sense...

rear is even more up in the air for me. There are LOTS of different calipers used by mazda over the late 90's and early 2000's...but a lot of the time a different part number for a rear caliper is simply how the piston retracts, despite everything else being the same mostly. The MSP's rear calipers difference being a true twist piston style, where the factory protege 5 used that annoying hex stud screw thing to retract a piston...which would often jam, get cross threaded, seize the caliper...and result in me just buying a full 4 wheel replacement haha.

So sorry, i know i'm not really answering your question...but take some measurements, source some part numbers for the 5 lug proteges...and try and source a V6 probe and look at the corners....I guarantee they are all similar to proteges suspension wise, but that doesn't always mean they will work without some modifications.

93-97 probes gad the exact same brakes as the 93-97 mazda mx6/626's. all the mounting locations on the calipers are the same on the 98+ 626, and 3rd gen 5 lug protege's also. even the mazda6 uses the same caliper bolt spacing.

as the hubs go. i think the fronts are indeed the same. but the rear hubs id bet would be different. i just assume the center wheel bearing diameter is smaller. but it wouldnt take much research to find out.

bumping the old...
RX7 FC 88 rear brakes would fit protege 3rd gen 5lug?
do i need to also replace the disc?

i think last time i checked wilwood brake caliper mounting bracket for rx7, its different compare to AAC bracket with wilwood caliper.

so i guess bbk designed for rx7 wont fit protege.

i'm about to pick up brakes from a S4 4 lug ex7 and see what happens....
got nothing to lose but time.

I can tell you the fRX7 fronts wont work. the mounting spot for the caliper on the hubs offset is totally off. Its possible to make them fit. but your going to have to machine the caliper, and then design a new bracket.

i'm more interested in the back
they may work since MSP rear brake pads are the same as the RX7's

i went to the junkyard and couldn't find any 2nd gen rx7's so i eded up picking up the calipers off a 626v6 and they are the same, which leads me to the conclusion that the breakpads are the same too?
don't quote me on that because although the caliper is the same, the brackets are different...and that's where the pads go...so

the 626 uses the same brakes as the probe and mx6. which are the same as the ones on the front of the 5 lug 3rd gen protege's.

the mazda6 stuff is also a bolt on, and the largest upgrade using oem parts. the speed6 brakes are like 12.6 inchs or something like that.

for the largest rear option, go with the 98+ 626 rears. or the speed protege's. i believe they both use the same exact rotor also. the 03-05 mazda6 rear rotor i also believe is the same.

Mazda liked reusing the same spacing across a couple decades. ive bolted up 07 speed6 brakes on a 88 mazda mx6 and it was a direct install. My own Summer DD 05 mazda6 is running much larger 07 speed6 brakes. My Beater 97 626 is running my stock 05 mazda6 front brakes and were like a 1.5in upgrade. then im running the 98+ 626 rear disc set up which was an inch upgrade. On my probeGT i went a little more fancy and have a Wilwood set up.
