mp3 hp

nocar

PS!
Potential Scammer!
The powerplant for the MP3 is a DOHC, 16-valve, 2.0-liter four cylinder engine putting out 140-horsepower and 142 ft-lbs of torque.

- I heard from a few people here that it only has liek 113 hp ? whos tellin the truth lol, this is for stock btw.

140 is to the crank. 111 is to the wheels....It's called drivetrain loss.

It's the same for every cars.
even a RSX S has 200hp, maybe it only has 140hp on the wheels.... :dunno:

oh i didnt know that, what are things you could do to minimize drivetrain loss.

i got my mp3 dynoed 2 weeks ago, the result is 109hp and 115lb-ft for torque...around 22% loss on hp...only k&n filter installed...i think something must be wrong since every stock mp3s got 111 something horsepower...anyone know? i'll try to scan and post the dyno sheet...

To get some of that lost WHP back, I suggest that you look into buying a lightened flywheel and possibly a better clutch. Goodluck, I hope I helped a little. I almost forgot, you could even go a bit further and see what the Unorthodax underdrive pulley will give you back as well. I'm not sure about that one and there is a lot of speculaction about UDP "underdrive pulleys".

what about lighter wheels. i thought when the first mp3 was dyno'd we also took into fact the wheel/tire combo we had is 40lbs and pretty heavy, which accounts for some WHP loss. i bet we would pick up a few horse just slapping on some 15inch steelies.

What gas were you using. If you have EVER used anything less than premium, that's why you lost hp. Your ecu resets to stock protege timing levels if you use low grade gas. You have to reset the ecu before you do the dyno with premium gas.

Also a three-four difference in dyno sheets is nothing big. Ever more so if the two sheets arent from the same dyno (area) etc. It could have been hotter that day etc. Or difference air dentisy.

ugh, i would have hoped that the MP3 gave more on the dyno. now it looks as if that turbo is just around a corner giving me about 170HP to the wheels at 6psi (flyinmiata turbo). that'll be awesome.

well i dynoed my car a while back with the aem short ram and a 2.25 exh. no 2nd cat and stock muffler and i got 117 hp and 125 lb-ft

not bad for simple mods

You guys also have 94 Octane gasoline if I remember correctly. I loved that about Michigan when I lived there. Here in cali, we're stuck with crappy 91. I'm not sure if it would make that much of a difference, but I prefer the higher octane myself.

94 aint standard in michigan no more

its down to 93 :D

course Speedway offers 92 at highest (ethanol added 10%- maybe thats why its 92)

I was running 93 octane that day. MI dosent have 94 oct but i can get all the way up to 110 oct if needed.. its about 2.70 per gallon right now in ann arbor.

ive never used it b/c im scared to blow my engine.. i think 100 octane is the highest i want to go right now.

i owned a 89 Tracer a while back which is the same as the 323 hatch and i put octane booster in it which brought it up to 107 oct and i blew the head gasket. lol...
those were the days..

I can still get 94 octane at sunoco in Massachusetts however it is so expensive.

yea watch out- that high octane s*** burns really WELL. its about what NASCAR uses. just dont SMOKE within 20 feet of it!! ;)

the guy sed that if u put anything lower then premium that the chip resets itself back to regular protege mode. My car is used, how do i know the person before didnt put reg a few times, adn im not getting the full performance i should b getting. How to reset ecu,,
