Maff's STS2 Build

haha nice... and leaky brakes will cause a bit of brake loss, good thing you caught that ;)

NOTHING kills confidence in the car like brake problems. Just driving it to and from kevins where I did the work was nerve wracking. Even tho they worked fine, the pedal was REALLY long. Zero fun sir. She's back now tho ;)

good to hear (2thumbs) lol i did the same thing in the FC...luckily it was just pulling in the driveway...hitting the brakes and having it go to the floor and do nothing is never fun heh

more good news! Since we changed the water pump and fixed the timing, I could have SWORN she was stronger than before, but I only had the butt dyno to refer to. It definitely sounded better, but you know how it is with these things. Anyway, since the header came in, I wanted to get a good reading of where I am right now so I can compare if / how it helped me. Well, just like my hips, my butt don't lie :p

BOOM! 16.1 more than HP the last time I had her on the rollers, and 21 more than the very first dyno (77.1 I think with a crudded up air filter, stock air box, bad timing, stock everything, etc).

Torque is another story. Peak only gained about 1.5 lb/ft, however I have b/w 7-10 lb/ft more throughout the mid range, about 20 lb/ft more in the top end. m'gawd man!

It's amazing what fixing the timing will do LOL. Having the water pump give up the ghost is one of the best things that's happened to this car :D

Needless to say, I'm EXTREMELY happy with the results. For a 1.6 w/ 160,000 miles on the clock, she's not doing too shabby (yippy)

I suppose that power feels better when driving the little thing, but looking at the graph it is prety comical :)

Probably feels quite a bit faster than your p5 though, hahaha.

I hate you :p

straight line, not really that much. P5 has about 20 hp and lb/ft more. However, you can launch the miata WAY harder than the P5. And in the curves... well... miata = win. Nuff said.

whats going on there in the middle, where the torque just disappears :p
Off the scales y0! Naa, the sensor just wasn't getting a good signal for a second (actually, that's more like 30 seconds (rofl). 15 minute pull ftw! haha) from the plug wire. It happens.

Soooooooo....Sup with the wheels..Homie...
Way off topic..sorry..lol!

also gotta check the electronic timing now that the mechanical is fixed. If I'm lucky, I can advance it some more and pick up a lil bit o' powa

Racing Beat header install

So...I think this may be the only work I've done to the car that went off without any major problems (not remembering to plug the air meter back in doesn't count LOL)

Step 1: Transport header to Rogue/RacerXGirl's place so I could work on it

I really wanted to draw a smiley on the box and put the seatbelt on :D

Step 2: Old manifold off. After hitting them w/ some liquid wrench, I didn't have any problems with any of the nuts for the manifold. I figured, based on my and the car's history together, I'd at least shear one of them off for good measure, but that never happened. w00t!

snap! Someone dun stole muh header :(

Step 3: New header in. Pre-installing the O2 sensor helped get everything in easily. Installation is reverse of removal, etc ;). Having 2 people really helped w/ this part (1 on top, 1 on the bottom (boom07)).

Word, new header on :D

It sounds a lot better. It's actually a little louder, but less harsh / raspy than before. Sounds a LOT better than it did, and is a little stronger. I likey likey. Also, having that wrap there instead of nothing before (no heatshield, etc) seems to have lowered underhood temps... however jury's still out on that one ;)

EDIT: Only cell phone pics, sorry. I'll have to take a close up of the flange for that thing. It's purrrrdy

ahh good the bottom flange is no longer held together by 1 nut that was fully threaded and two just chillen on whats left of studs

So no recent updates other than: 1. Header sounds WAY better, pulls harder. Win.

For those of you who wanted a 'longer term' opinion of the gearhead garage endlinks, they're AWESOME! My car hasn't been this quiet (well...the front suspension at least, everything else is loud as hell) in a long time!

And while it's not quite STS2 legal, what follows does look freakin good! This is what happens when I get bored... (ugh)
