Maff's STS2 Build

We just replaced the motor mounts in the Spec. It wasn't bad at all actually. Granted we had the entire front suspension off....and replaced the sub-frame....

so access to the motor mounts was cake....and having an engine lift helps. ;)

The Muff-iata.

Engine mounts aren't that terrible to replace. Just place a jack under the oil pan, losen the nut and 3 bolts on one side at a time and go from there. I takes some contorion to get them out, but again, it's not terrible.

So update:
New motor mounts: in.
VAF: Blown.
New VAF: Not from a BP, but a SOHC B8 (I believe). It works. Kind of.
New Dyno: 86 mad tyt3 JDM hp!

Problems or not, I still am absolutely in love with this car. SOOO much fun to drive. And now, for a couple of cosmeting things:

And of course, when everything's going great, it's a necessity that it comes crashing down to keep you in check. My water pump blew today (er...yesterday at this point). Any luck and I'll be working on it @ Rogue's tomorrow at some point. Any1 local want to lend a hand? I tip generously!

So much for running the Driver's Development Program tomorrow.... Son of a damn it.

I remember asking you about the water pump when you were having the bubbling/boiling coolant at Cheaha, but we ruled it out since it wasn't making that horrible noise they normally do on their way to their demise.

Just give a call before you head over and we'll get our cars situated in the driveway so you can have a space close to the garage.

Mine did not make any noise when it started going either it just leaked more and more whenever I stopped (did not leak when car was running just stopped).
You have to do the timing belt job to get to the water pump so you might as well replace all that if you can at the same time unless that has been done recently.

I recommend doing the optional and removing the fans/radiator it gives you a lot more room to work in there and it is not that much extra work.

THanks for the tips. Kevin (kcbhiw) has given me a bunch of info, I've looked it up in the 'Garage' and I've looked it up in the FSM. That's exactly how mine went, just a couple 'smaller' leaks until last night, where it just dumped out most of the radiator's worth of fluid. It's a good thing I decided to go outside and tweak how my harnesses was setup and noticed the creeping green death coming towards me.

The car needs a badger sticker on the hood. +10 hp
lol and God knows I need all I can get, esp since I'm about 40 HP down on 'prepped' miatas in my class.

Alright dude, thanks. HOPEFULLY we'll be done by then.

ugh. As much as I enjoy turning a wrench, I'd rather do it on my own time... recently everything just seems to decide to break whenever the hell it wants lol. Bastard old parts, always not checking their schedules before breaking!

lol thanks Todd.

So, we got everything back together, and I'm pretty sure everything's back together RIGHT. We even decided to pull the A/C. I have a feeling either that old water pump or the A/C compressor were dragging badly (didn't really check, but the pump felt a bit draggy) because the car pulls stronger than it did before :D. And losing 25-ish (or is it 35? I don't feel like looking ATM) lbs is kind of nice :)

Time for bed, autocross tomorrow :)

My A/C system weighed in at 44 lbs when I removed it years ago. What took you so long? ;)

being a n00b. And lunch. And dinner. And making a couple extra parts runs. And screwing up 1 of the gaskets. etc etc etc :p

So 44lbs...damn. Hell, that bracket on the block's almost 10 lbs by itself!

Indeed it is. It's a huge, thick chunk of metal.

there's so much room under there too now w/ all those lines / compressor / condensor / brackets / misc stuff out of the way, which is really nice :)

its amazing what happens when you take all the bolts out. and put the gasket in right

well, I lost about 2% of the car's (approximate) weight. That plus fixing the timing = .005 or so lol
