Low performance after oil change

Hey guys... yesterday I changed my own oil for the first time on my P5 at 4500 miles. I picked a new oil from Mobil specially formulated for newer cars and it's not fully synthetic, but part... and I got 5W30. I also got a Purolator filter. After installing, I noticed that the car isn't acting the same, like it doesn't kick like it used to.

Anyone have any suggestions for why it does that? Has anyone used this oil before?

Give it some time (about a day or 2) you should feel the power come back. To be honest, you shoulda went with an all dino based oil for your 1st change, then went to a full or partial synthetic. :D

What kind of oil is that? I'm so close to dumping that oil and putting something else! What should I do? I'm going out tonight, long little drive, so I'll see how it feels.

dino oil=just regular oil. an engine needs a good breakin before you can switch to any synthetic. You shouldnt have any issues after driving a few couple of miles. Just check the levels every so often until your next change. :D

Well, i'll see. Thanks for the help. If anything, I'm gonna just change the oil. The thing is, why would Mobil make an oil for newer cars if it doesn't work well?

maybe you way over filled it? maybe its just smoother now so it doesnt sound as fast :D

what a coincidence, i changed my oil yesterday, too, using valvoline durablend synthetic blend which isn't 100% synthetic which I usually put and now the car doesn't seem as peppy. i'll revert back to full synthetic in about 4000 miles. when i was in the aisle looking at the oils, I asked myself if it were really worth it to continue to pay the $5 per quart of full synthetic and decided to try the durablend. i know i can't go all the way back to conventional oil since switching to synthetic so i figured i'd go with a blend. bad mistake i guess.

yeah, well I thought it would be good by now, but nope. I'm gonna change it tomorrow morning, cause I can't stand not getting my baby to fly. I'll stick with regular oil for now, then go synthetic later.

I've said this before...

Synthetic blends do not benefit you at all over regular oil. Either go full synthetic or save yourself a few bucks and stick with dino oil. These blends have been around for years and are simply a marketing hype.

BTW, the Motorcraft oil filter is made by purolator, same as the Pure One, which is their top filter. That can save you a few more dollars.

dino = oil made from dinosaurs :D

Thanks... I just hope I didn't mess anything up with that crappy oil. I don't understand why it would make my car slower! AHHHHHHH....

for what it is worth oil of the proper viscosity wether syn. or reg. would not cause a significant change in performance the ftc web sites has many an article on this the claims or lack of, many oils and additives check for a collapsed filter and fill it to factory specs my dipstick is not the most accurate do not use a filter not specd. for your car .autos are engineered to specific tolerances for a reason otherwise there would be one filter for all cars change to the wrong oil filter could cause less or more internal pressure and premature wear on the oil pump good luck and keep us posted to your resolve.

Hey guys... thanks for all the help. This morning I changed the oil to Valvoline 5W30, and I noticed a difference. The car is sorta back to normal, I HOPE! I just don't know what it was, cause it happened right after my oil change. I got the right filter that Pep Boys told me, so I don't know what it was. Anyway, I'm gonna take another spin tonight and see how it feels.

i personally doubt the oil you had were crappy unless somehting were off in the packaging process - but hey that just one mans opinion. besides if you purchased it from a reputable dealer (not joes roadside oil stand) and it was a brand name that states it meets the current manufacturers warranty requirements - it isnt crappy... there may be others that are better for your specific application

for those who may have questions about motor oil - this has got to be the best link to have those answered...
