here's my idea. suggestions/criticisms/flames?
ok, here's what i'm thinking. i've spent way too much time at work today reading posts in this forum, and haven't seen my question asked yet. however, thanks Nuke and 1st, you guys have already been really helpful.
i want to keep my stock HU if at all possible. partly for security, partly b/c most aftermarket HUs are a pain in the ass to operate while driving (what's so bad about volume KNOBS?), and partly b/c i can't find any HUs that have red displays and i think blue or gren would look terrible at night.
anywho, my idea:
i'd like to install 2 subs in my trunk. 2 small SEALED sub boxes, each containing either one of these (or similar):
Rockford Fosgate or
much cheaper than the RF
the plan is to minimize intrusion into the trunk. based on the calculations, the volume should be small enough that i could build custom-shaped (most likely trapezoidal) boxes of correct volume and fit each one in the side of my trunk behind the wheelwells (at the back of the trunk where it gets wider again). power these with an amp. i am undecided there, whether to use a 5-channel like the one Sir Nuke suggested -- running the two 4 ohm speakers in parallel would give me the 2 ohms -- or a two-channel and run a separate amp for my door speakers (which i will upgrade eventually...prolly before i do the sub project since it's too cold out now). but i'm not sure if i can run the two amps w/ the stock HU?
and what about the front tweeters? i can find no info on them...so what do you think? i'm not looking to set off any car alarms or draw undue attention to myself in traffic, i just want a little more oomph to my music. massive attack is much more enjoyable w/ some decent bass response!
i'd be happy controlling the sub like a speaker (raising and lowering the volume w/ my door speakers)...i'd like to pretty much "set it and forget it." and not spend a ton of money. any suggestions?
