here's my idea. suggestions/criticisms/flames?

ok, here's what i'm thinking. i've spent way too much time at work today reading posts in this forum, and haven't seen my question asked yet. however, thanks Nuke and 1st, you guys have already been really helpful.

i want to keep my stock HU if at all possible. partly for security, partly b/c most aftermarket HUs are a pain in the ass to operate while driving (what's so bad about volume KNOBS?), and partly b/c i can't find any HUs that have red displays and i think blue or gren would look terrible at night.

anywho, my idea:

i'd like to install 2 subs in my trunk. 2 small SEALED sub boxes, each containing either one of these (or similar):

Rockford Fosgate or

much cheaper than the RF

the plan is to minimize intrusion into the trunk. based on the calculations, the volume should be small enough that i could build custom-shaped (most likely trapezoidal) boxes of correct volume and fit each one in the side of my trunk behind the wheelwells (at the back of the trunk where it gets wider again). power these with an amp. i am undecided there, whether to use a 5-channel like the one Sir Nuke suggested -- running the two 4 ohm speakers in parallel would give me the 2 ohms -- or a two-channel and run a separate amp for my door speakers (which i will upgrade eventually...prolly before i do the sub project since it's too cold out now). but i'm not sure if i can run the two amps w/ the stock HU?

and what about the front tweeters? i can find no info on them...so what do you think? i'm not looking to set off any car alarms or draw undue attention to myself in traffic, i just want a little more oomph to my music. massive attack is much more enjoyable w/ some decent bass response! :) i'd be happy controlling the sub like a speaker (raising and lowering the volume w/ my door speakers)...i'd like to pretty much "set it and forget it." and not spend a ton of money. any suggestions?

not really a power thing, more of a packaging necessity. (and to have something slightly original that i can say i made myself). i don't want to have a box blocking my pass thru, and i don't need 1000W of power. that amp Nuke suggested looks perfect. i was just seeing if anyone thought it would be a decent idea, worth trying.

my best friend has a nice setup w/ a 12 in the trunk of his 2.5RS, and it sounds great (Tweeter did nice work), but it's too bulky and has more bass than i really need/want. and way too bulky.

for starters.....don't even consider that Pioneer woofer....as that is a piece of junk.....after all its only $17....you DO get what you pay for.....lol

from what you said in your post....I really thing a single sub would do you just fine...this would be a nice choice...

it just so happens to be the one I have.....you can get a smaller incloser than the one I did...in fact it only needs a sealed enclosure of .5-.9 cu ft. which you could fit into the space you mentioned fairly easily. Then you could go with the single alpine V-power 5 channel amp and do all your speakers at the same time....

just my .02 I am sure 1st will be along to give you more options that will work just as well if not better.

This is crazy, because I am almost doing the same thing by installing subs behind the wheel wells in my car. I am using 2 Solobarick 8", one on each side in the back with about .4 cubic feet per box.

So far my friend and I have pretty much got the specs figured out but have not bought any equipment yet (except the subs), but so far we have been thinking about getting two separate amps. One two-channel to run the subs and another six-channel to run the others.

Like SirNuke said, you could go with a single sub, then mount the amp behind the oposite wheel to maximize space.
