Does anyone or know of anyone driving without a front liscence plate here in NJ. I took it off this morning and the front of the car looks 10 times better. What kinda of fine is it if caught? Thanks
Jason

You get sodomized by some hobgoblins if you get caught with out your front plates in NJ. :D

dont sweat it, its not like they are going to take your car away. just try to go as long as you can without it. i havent had one ever. then again i dont live in jersey.

I'm in CA and I drove my car without a licence in the front for a long ass time before I just ended up putting it back on

In CA, it used to be a $10 fix-it ticket for a first or second offense, and maybe up to $25 for a third(something small like that). I heard they raised it thogh, and its like $125 now...I hope not, because I've gotten quite a few with my old cars. I refuse to put one on the MSP though since I have no bumper holes for it.

there was a thread about something that covered the wholes up when the plate was off. Can anyone inform me on this. Thanks
Jason

here in maryland it's $50 each time.. i drove around without a front tag on my old car because i didn't want to screw into my body kit.. i got pulled over every now and then and got a ticket each time.. when it was sporadic it wasn't that bad.. then i got pulled over two more times in two weeks and i finally gave in and wire-tied the front tag onto the grill/wire mesh piece of the body kit..

That's why I love PA!!! Don't need the plates on front... it's great!
(sorry to boast!)

i covered my holes up after taking my front plate off..( FYI it is illegal in texas to drive w/ out a front plate ) car lookes 10 times better

When I lived Virginia, I would do the "Damn, I thought I heard something fall off the car!" routine. Sometimes worked. Now I live in Florida, no front plates...HA HA Simpson you Suck

Can't speak for the other thread, but I can speak for the plates issue. From what I was told by Raritan Township Police it was $25 for the first offense and $50 for the second offense. They didn't specify a 3rd/4th offense but because they didn't I can only imagine it's not pretty.

He did say that there are circumstances for vehicles in NJ (registered) to go without the front plates but I believe he was talking more so about classic cars (qq plates).

If you're 100% against the front plates you can get away with the plate on dash routine. You're more likely to get off with a verbal warning. NJ troopers are more concerned now with seat belts and window tinting than anything else.

I was told that at least in CA that plates in dash is not acceptable.

Do some really expensive vehicles even have a place for front plates? I think I heard that they don't (wonder how they get away with that)

It's not. It must be mounted on the bumper. Putting it inside the car just seems to make it more obvious that it's not on the bumper where it should be. Worse comes to worse, just tell the cop it got stolen. My brother drove around without his rear plate for weeks before he got pulled over. Cop just told him to get it "taken care of".

Far from acceptable, I was merely suggesting that as bootleg alternative. If you have to go without the license plate on the grill area at least have it displayed on the dash. You're most likely screwed regardless in jersey but could potentially con your way out of ticket if it was on the passenger side dash and secured.

As for the license plate frames, I know that Ferrari and Aston Martin do not have holes or frames for the front. I've got a buddy's father who refuses to disgrace the front of his car with them even if he had to by law.

The reason the front plates are so important in Sacramento is for the red light cameras. If it's not on your front bumper, there is a less likely chance of you getting caught. Cops don't like that. I figure, if you put it on your dash, your just helping them out :) If I'm flying through the intersection fast enough, maybe they won't catch my rear plate either.

Don't they make those neat reflective covers for the rear plates that make the rear plates on visible at a head on angle from within 25ft?

Or maybe I'm just speaking out of my ass.

No, you're right, they do, in a few differents shades too...Those are also illegal in Cali, but I see peeps with them all the time...Lazy cops:D
